Carson said something early in fall camp saying the practice intensity and process matched other top teams (obviously referencing UGA).

I found the indy time for the lines and LBs/TEs was very intense when I saw a spring practice first hand. They are effectively trading conditioning for 1v1/2v2 game like work at 80-90% exertion level.

There is some science to this, and it seems to have originated from Bama, if not some other SEC team where the tree is linked.

All these coaches do that big guy>>little guy recruiting that Mario attributes to Saban, which combined with specialized practice methods, seems to be the standard blueprint. It is interesting when players come in and say something like this looks familiar etc...

This isn't like a sure-fire way to become a dynasty, but it seems to be some of the core underpinnings we need to get in the convo.

I think all the Mopes and slurpers can come to agreement that we’re ecstatic about a victory over Notre Dame but I would wait until November is over with before this thread has any merit to it

Agreed. For those that can’t watch, Dawson explains his thought processes from the key moments of the 2nd half. Going by memory here.

Said the offense went a little stagnant but it really came down to converting three different third and shorts. Said he had faith in our OL, which was getting a lot of push, and was very impressed with ND’s secondary. Said they were as good or better than expected. He said there are no “safe” pass plays and some of the screens proved that. Said when Brown slipped/tripped, that would’ve been a first down. One other call he was 50/50 run/pass and went with the run and maybe would take that one back.

On the last drive, he said he had faith in our kicker from watching him in practice and 2 minute drill, knew we were well within FG range, and wanted to make ND use all its TOs. He said watching our pass rush in practice he knew ND would have a really hard time doing anything in 1 minute with no TOs. He said one sack is worth 30 seconds in the 2 minute drill and he was pretty confident in our defense.

Also said we got it done when we had to on that last drive. Praised the receivers a ton for their blocking.
 
needs to win the conference, but probably underpaid for what he has done here, 2022 1 draft pick in the 7th round was the starting point

I like Mario, and he’s a good coach in a lot of ways. But “winning culture” is sort of over the top. He had two decent seasons at FIU, and a success level at Oregon slightly below that of Lanning and Kelly.

What's your definition of "winning culture" then? It's not just wins and loses!!

not sure i have a great definition for you, but contextually, mario is the best or second best coach in FIU history. he is sort of average for the past 30 years of oregon football. he is sort of average for the past 25 years of miami football. that resume to me sounds like status quo, not a winning culture. but the dollars make a difference.

Summed up nicely and accurately. There’s always a LOT of speculation into a coaches thought process about certain situations. Hearing it from the horses mouth eliminates all of it.

Ok! I can agree, somewhat! fiu he did his thang,Oregon he set the table for lanning, and him and richt are neck and neck here! if he does anything of substance this year he passes richt and is approaching coker he would need a title to pass coker!

so I don't get the knock on when he's using timeouts... the knock on better coaching by the coordinators to avoid those things - for sure

I believe he used them well too. In the first half something wasn't right on the punt. I think ND had a fake lined up and Mario and crew saw it. I liked the timeouts in this game.

I think we can win the title this year with this roster. I think we are all rooting for that.
 
Mario is an elite get your guys ready for a big week 1 or 2 matchup coach. OSU, UF, ND, and whoever else he’s beaten early in the year. The knock on him is he’ll always lose one he shouldn’t and his teams don’t get better as the year goes on. Let’s see if he’s finally got the roster and program to a point where he can finally do that.
