They're a flash in the pan program because of Phil Knight's money. They had a few good coaches and Mario might turn out to be one. But it doesn't change the fact they have zero rings and a not-so-great recruiting base. It seems to me the "Oregon effect" in recruiting has warn off a bit. The jersey combos and ridiculous colors became a tired joke when they stopped lighting it up on the field. I live in the Pacific Northwest and Eugene is an OK town at best with nothing near it but beautiful nature.

Oregon, as a program, is closer to Louisville than they are The U.

Oregon is currently ranked 3rd in recruiting, where are ranked again?
 
I NEVER said Mario is the second coming, I'm simply asking why does everyone hate this man so much when he NEVER, EVER, did anything to hurt the University of Miami? ?!! I like Richt, but like I said before I remember this man LAUGHING at the idea of coaching UM when things were going good at UGA. And the ONLY reason he's at UM NOW is because he was let go from UGA! I'm glad he's at UM, but it's takes more than being a " GOOD GUY" to be a successful coach, especially at UM, see Coker, Golden, and Shannon. And for all of yall hating on Kirby Smart on Richt's behalf, know this...Kirby had UM on speed dial after Folden got fired. Rumor has it he made upwards to 9 calls to UM in ONE day trying to get a interview...

It's not about Mario returning here. It's just the issue where people just hate him. I give him a break simply because he suited up as a Cane and so did his brother.... should mean something. I also knew his parents and they were very good people. Hate to think it's an ethnic issue.

I completely agree. I definitely cheer for his success. He is a Cane

I'm not buying the Cristobal hype at all, but my main point is I don't get why some Canes fans think he's the best we can do after Richt?

This is a marquee program that is right smack dab in the middle of the most abundant recruiting ground in the nation, with the way Richt has rebuilt the program we can attract some really great young upcoming coaches or even snag in a big fish if any are available at the time.

We're trying to win multiple ACC titles, contend for the playoffs annually & become a National champion again, does anybody really believe Cristobal can do that?

I'll take Marcus Arroyo as an OC though lol

No arguments with this El but I think everyone is just going based on what we've seen from coaching searches in the past. At one point there was a chance that Mark effing Trestman was going to be head coach here. I'll give it to Blake that he had the foresight and stones to go get Richt but I wouldn't say the last 20 years of coaching searches before that were very imaginative or well thought out.

El, I agree with you. But I'm concerned about a comment Dee made months back that whenever Richt retires, that the admin (particularly DiMare, who's son is now the HC for Baseball btw) wants Cristobal to be the next guy. That's why I'm hoping that Wario truly has become a better coach.

I'd prefer another coach over Cristobal, but I have a feeling that the admin will use Miami ties in the next hire.
 
He is in the perfect situation to prove himself so people can get over the FIU thing and finally see what he's made of. I dont care what he got left. When Richt leaves, someone will be left with alot. So he can prove himself. I also have a feeling Diaz might be next in line here. Our staff is pretty young on average and we may have some good continuity if they get paid decent if they perform.

Not sure who "Dee" is, and I'd also like to see that comment, I've never seen that anywhere nor do I think they'd be short-sighted enough to say it out loud. And DiMare is not admin he's a board member, dosen't mean he doesnt have influnce, obviously, but none the less.

Taggart and Mario inherited a 4 win team with a diamond in the rough qb. No one including Herbert knew he would turn out to be the QB he is now. Malik was more talked about coming outta high school than Herbert lol

So it upsets you because there are some people out there that don't hate Mario like you do? Who is this " MUCH MUCH better coach you're referring to? We can't afford the cheaters like Saban, Dabo, Meyer , and even if we could we're not allowed to cheat so what good would hiring the cheaters do?
