Crazy thought but what if...

It was Mack Brown, a national championship winning coach, and he had a roster that could compete right away. Why the **** do you think he decided to come back to coaching?

Bc he got bored and for some reason he and his wife love Chapel Hill. It’s literally been reported on multiple times that he wanted to coach again. His wife said he could only go to Hawaii or Carolina. That roster isn’t all that talented, but he made the right hires and got his guy in Sam Howell.

They haven’t been to a bowl game in a few years and have lost like 4 or 5 straight to NC State for f**** sake. It’s not like he walked into an immediate winner. Their fans were hoping for 5 wins

A roster that could compete right away?
You mean this roster?

UNC was obviously underrated, but let’s not try to claim they were a better team on paper
You can't look at it "on paper" or by star rankings out of high school. You have to take experience into account. Would take a 5* freshman in a one on one match up against a 3* jr or sr in the freshman's first or second game. Unless the freshman is Frank Gore, the experienced guy will win every time. But long term, even with only average development, I'll take the 5* every time. Every ones quick to forget that Ahmon Richards didn't hit his stride until mid-season. Trevor Lawrence was eased in and didn't take over until October.

Last year UNC had to perform wholesale replacements and went 2-9. We're doing essentially the same thing a year later. I'll doubt we're anywhere close.

...you know what if it just takes time?

I get it, look at (insert coach here) and the results they got at (insert timeframe) is the narrative. But truth is if we go to the coaching hire threads almost all of those guys have been crowned as corches and all have bad losses on their resume.

I know 90% on this board have more answers than Manny cuz apparently it’s as easy as fire this guy, spend more money on coaches, bench this kid, run this scheme and next week we’ll have dynasty.

And I know it’s been 15 years and blah blah blah, but it hasn’t been 15 years. It’s been 2 games.

What if it’s just going to take time to build this thing up?

Agreed. While I understand the frustration of past failed regimes (I've been a fan for over 35 years, and have lived through good and bad), we can't assume a new regime is going to be a failure because past regimes were despite giving them time. Using that logic, no new coaching staff with a brand new system and in this case a very young team, will ever be kept around long enough to actually develop a high caliber team. It's either win immediately or scrap and start over...and over...and over.... No development period allowed. That's completely unreasonable.

Will Manny fail? Maybe. Will he succeed? Maybe. Have we seen enough to have any idea whatsoever either way? Absolutely not.

I sincerely hope that happens

But if I’ve learned anything about being a Canes fan for the past 35 years of my life, especially the last 15, I’ll believe it when I see it

They’ve fooled me into drinking the koolaid far too many times
Frustration understood, but what's the other option? Just keep scrapping coaching staffs every year when they don't come in and immediately fix the team and all the problems inherited? Not allow any coach a chance to actually develop the team, because past coaches have failed in their shot at developing the team?

And people act as if we have no business to dare expect the same things here.

It’s bull****
..and we are literally 2 plays away from being the ones that are 2-0. Sucks that we lost, absolutely. But acting as if there is no hope when we lost to a ranked team and rival, first game of the year, with a new system and very young team, and then to a Conference foe on the road, by a combined 7 points and 2 plays is nonsense. We didn't get blown out. We didn't give up halfway through the game (like in past years). I'm not saying Manny has done a great job, or a bad job. He's having struggles, the team is having struggles. Two games isn't even close to a sufficient sample size to determine whether he will fail or succeed.

Well said.

We aren't trash. I just expected more after all the offseason talk. He over promised and under delivered. That is NOT what you want to do. Yes, we should all expect it to take a little time with a new coaching staff, new QB, new LT, etc. However, when you are sold a shiny "NEW MIAMI" and are handed an 0-2 turdburger, it's kind of hard to take with a smile.

The off-season is rainbows and sunshine every single year. You've been around long enough not to fall for it. Every coach talks their team up during this time.

TNM, it is new. You can see that, it's an attitude, work ethic, way of doing things, etc. Beyond that, as you said the rest will take time.

0-2, oh well, I saw improvement in this team and know we could've won both. Even the close ones last year left me feeling like we had been blown out. Program was on full life support, near death.

Didn’t 90% of this boards posters claim they were trash up until kickoff? I mean everyone here is so smart, how did we make them the Patriots in 60 minutes?

The most reliable source is Vegas, always will be. When it comes to predicting outcomes, they are the only source I put faith in. And they are still only correct about 55-60% of the time

We were favored anywhere between 3 and 6 depending on the day.

Sooooo, what you are saying is this board makes their superfan, rah rah, homer laced predictions based on no actual facts and not on any football knowledge or reality? In other words, pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows?

Of course we expected the same thing, and we were let down. Manny and the team allowed two ok teams to beat us. Two teams we were equipped to beat. That's bad.

But maybe there's room to acknowledge that we and Manny are off to a terrible, incredibly disappointing start and yet somehow not fire the entire staff. Maybe there's some way that things can change. I know there's no precedent in the history of sports, but just maybe it can happen this time.
