Crazy (bad) trend in our three losses - We've scored to lead/tie in the 4th quarter and still lost

It means we have the players to win every game we've played and are being out coached. It's that simple.

Just some salt in the wound at this point but I think this is such a crazy stat/trend in our three losses this year. We've taken the lead (or tied) at some point in the fourth quarter of all three games; two of those games we gave up game-winning drives in the final minute (just after we score). Maybe this is payback for all of the close wins in 2017 (FSU, GT, UNC), but the reality of the situation is we seem unable to close out games this season. With all of our other issues (penalties, slow starts, Oline, FG kicking), we somehow still find a way to take the lead late in games, only to hand them the W in the end. It's kind of sick humor at this point to think that if Blake/Diaz made one late stop in each game, we could be the worst 5-0 team in the country.

I’ll raise you the CMU debacle and say we are what our record says it is

Both Florida and Va Tech beat a CB with a deep pass 1v1 to start those drives. That's a sign to me that the opposing coaches know how to beat Baker.

I won't even mention how all of them took advantage of us with their TEs and RBs. Our DC is getting his lunch eaten.

Hopefully Manny is the Savage I believe him to be and he sends Baker packing at the end of the season (if not before).

When your dc says he was outcoached by central Michigan you got the wrong guy leading your defense, that comes full circle when you have 6 possessions in the redzone but give up 6 tds. That doesn’t happen often at all unless you are playing an fcs team..

The defense has taken a major step back this year, especially in the secondary. Jaquan and Redwine cleaned up a lot of plays last year. We can see now that the linebackers are just average, not a strength as they've been hyped up to be. The defensive line has been underwhelming when it comes to getting a consistent pass rush. And the cherry on top is the ridiculous play calling.

There is no mercy in P5 football, the weak will be exposed. Minnie and Co. are weak.

We also missed 2 FGs and an extra against UNC.. Honestly unbelievable. At this point, I would not let Baxa kick another ball this year. Have a walk on competition from kids at the school. Im not even kidding. You would actually have a better excuse when they miss.

or just go for the first or the td. Baxa terrible, he misses extra points regularly and is .500 on short field goals. He’s awful.

I think the best defensive call was letting VT score their last touchdown quickly after getting in gimme FG range. Actually gave our offense time to drive for potential win or tie.
If I was VT coach I would have taken a knee 3 times and run the clock down and then kick FG. They actually scored too quickly.

So you’re telling me Baker got out coached on final drives of every loss

Yes, as well as the CMU comeback. Baker has shown he's predictable Our defense has collapsed in the 4th quarter in every game where the opponent had a pulse.

The UNC and VT losses are especially heinous. In both games, our defense let mediocre opponents jump to big early leads, then our offense clawed its way back to a lead/tie late in the game, only for the defense to be incapable of stopping them on the one series they needed to make a stand.

4th and 17 vs UNC. We come back from 35-14 to 35-35 vs. VT. And our defense fails in epic fashion.

Our defense blowing ******* isn't a trend just in our losses. It's a trend in our ****** wins too

Roster turnover and lack of experience!

How many returning starters do we have in secondary and DL? Lost the 2 best DTs and Nesta just started playing against VT, but was on a snap count. Notice that lack of push on the interior? That freed up the LBs and DEs to get the glory.

Same in the secondary. Bandy covered the, was not the starter on the outside a majority of the time. And we know the safeties saved the day multiple times a game.

Calling the same plays with the experience/talent reduction of last year gets us gashed. Especially when the LBs think they have to make up for the deficiencies and over-persue repeatedly.

Also, that's the same drive that JT4 dropped a TD on 3rd down just prior the the Bubba miss. So instead of being up 6, we would have been up 10; instead we were up 3 and then UF scored to go up 24-20.
Yep. Its maddening how many boneheaded plays we have made in every game that each alone contributed to the losses. Take away any one of those and we are probably ok.
