Saban did his weekly press conference yesterday and talked about their protocols during their bye week. He meant business. Players were allowed to go home or remain on campus.

Here are some of Saban's comments:

“I think we all try to have foresight in what can happen,” Saban said. “Everybody trusts their family. I trust my family. But nobody knows where Uncle Tommy’s been, either, so you have to still be careful. That’s why we tried to do the best possible educational program. I mean, the options were don’t let the players go any place, which is really kind of a punishment.

“Most of the guys wanted to go see their family. I can’t verify that we didn’t have somebody go someplace that they weren’t supposed to go, but if they did, we’ll certainly confront them with why they didn’t do what we asked them to do -- because if a player did that, he actually doesn’t just put himself at risk, he’s putting his teammates at risk when he comes back and everybody else. And that’s the one thing that our players have been pretty good about so far this year.”

The team had a number of meetings with players and their families BEFORE players were allowed to leave campus. These were the precautions and instructions given to the team:

Saban shared Alabama’s stringent set of guidelines for players that elected to travel home.

“We had a meeting with every player who was leaving, reinforced social-distancing and things that they needed to do,” Saban said. “We gave them a packet of sanitary things that would help them be able to do that, whether it’s a mask, hand sanitizer, whatever it might be. And then we set up video conferences with each family that they were going to go visit.

“We also wanted them to really understand the importance of being able to control the bubble that the players would be in when they were at home, because players feel comfortable around their family, but you also don’t know where the family members are going, coming and going. We really tried to educate the players and their families on what needed to be done and tried to give them all the things that we could in terms of apparatus so that they would have the things that needed to be able to stay safe.”

People just can't deprive themselves for a couple months. So they go home and catch it while hanging out. If you want to play a football season, you have to pretty much bubble up for 3 months. If you can't deprive yourself of hanging out with your family for a few short months, then this **** is what happens. I'm surprised Sabag got that loose and allowed the players to leave campus. Anyone knows that that is a recipe for disaster.

It's that simple. Either playing football is your top priority, or it isn't. Actions always speak louder than words.

If I'm on a team that has a legit shot at the title, I'm not going anywhere or doing anything where there might be contact. I don't want to miss a single chance to make a highlight reel and the last thing I want to do is be the reason we don't win it all.

I’m frankly a little surprised that they are not all already immune after having caught it in the past. That entire conference and its fan-base are reckless with their behavior, and ignore the guidelines. Many are outright hostile to the guidelines.

I wonder how they feel when their grandparents are in the ICU because of their own bad decisions? Maybe they’re not smart enough to think about it.
