I was watching a podcast about the root cause of Penn State's defensive failures this year. The conclusion was that Manny Diaz's lack of recruiting and new player development was the problem as soon as the prior coordinator's talent /developed players left. Sounds familiar.

I lived up in the ****hole known as PA for way too many years and because of that I have a ton of friends who are diehard PSU fans. I told them all that he was a bad hire, and of course his initial results did not reflect that, I told them to be patient as the prior regime players left and he got his own it would all go downhill. They didn't believe me then, they do now...............

I think there is more to it than Manny from 2 years ago. The Portal allows you to fix the bigger issues. They failed to address issues and thought the O was going to be elite. Allar isn't Josh Allen, even if they thought he was. Personally, I love it because I hate PSU! Hope they go winless the rest of the year.

As soon I saw "Manny Related".. I knew where this was going....
This is nothing new or surprising... This has been Manny's pattern everywhere he's been.... After this many years of seeing it things will never change... The man set conference records 3 times now I believe for yards allowed in a game....
Ok I'm done... Not my Coach, not my problem...

That's odd to me. Manny had some pretty **** good defenses in 22 and 23 at PSU. PSU just recently hired arguably one of the best DCs in CFB and yet Manny is to blame ? Recruiting is on Franklin and player development is not really a coordinator thing. seems odd to me but whatever and I'm far from a Manny fluffer

this is true. we had an awful defense last year and a good defense this year. basically the difference between this year and last year is we have a new coordinator, 2 freshman and portal additions all things PSU could have done.

But posters here were saying after Mario’s first 2 years… Mario and Manny have the same record. It’s the same results for more money….man coaches linebackers and couldn’t recruit one to save his life.

I laugh at most of the stuff that’s posted here because it doesn’t align with real life and is extremely comical.

When Manny was here the consensus was recruiting failures ultimately fall on the head coach.

Franklin is a fraud who can’t beat a really good team to save his life.

I don't disagree with their opinion on Manny and his recruiting. But their bigger problem is on the offensive side. Mediocre QB, decent RBs but zero threat from their WRs and TEs. That's on Franklin, who has scapegoated his share of coaches and will probably do do with his current guy he nabbed from Kansas.

I tend to blame coordinators more for scheme issues and player development issues. Recruiting... meh. If your assistant coaches are doing their jobs and your HC can close, you can easily live with an OC or DC who isn't a good recruiter.

Regardless, the buck stops with the HC. This seems like a way to cover for Franklin.
