Cortez Kennedy

If I remember correctly, they give out 3 Heismans...One to the Player...One to the CFB HOF...and One to the School....
Your memory is a little like mine, comes and goes! Actually 2 Trophys are awarded, one to the recipient and one to the school. Occasionally a recipient or the school may loan one to the Hall. G brought his to Columbus when UM played there and had it on display at Atchygate, the #1 tailgate at O$U home games. I’ll shoot you a few photos later.

Lol...thats why I said If I remember correctly....

Don't think Kennedy is left out of any conversations.

Everyone knows he was one of the best - at Miami and in the NFL.

I personally like the idea of having Sapp and Wilfork as the starters in the middle of a DL for an all-Miami team.

I think Wilfork will be joining Sapp and Kennedy in the future in the HOF.

But, we've had lots of good ones - Brown, Kennedy, Maryland, etc. could also fit in well.

With these threads about our best players , Cortez Kernnedy what a load he was for some reason he just seems to be left out of the stud conversation , well not this time :)

Just figured I keep this Cane studs name alive, yes I'd put him on our all time D front seven would anyone here disagree ?

No way on Earth do I put Vince on an All Time UM DL....

Back in 98 I was sitting with Butch at Hecht (I'll never forget because He was holding a Kids Camp at Greentree) and this same discussion came up about who was the best Interior DLman he had seen at UM. Since he coached Jerome...and a plethora of other DL Greats, I immediately thought he'd say Jerome...since he never really coached Sapp etc...But without ANY hesitation he said Sapp was the best...kinda caught me off guard...I remember Erickson said that he'd have to take Sapp outta practices, so the Off could move the ball past the LOS.....
Will never forget him against the vaunted Nebraska OL in the '94 Orange Bowl. I remember watching ESPN the prior week and both teams were in a pool hall, all they could talk about was Nebraska OL this and that, weren't saying anything about us or our DL. A guy was interviewing Sapp and their OL was in the corner hitting their fist against their hand, implying that was what they were going to do. He asked Sapp about it and he said, "all I have to say about that is, come get some!"
Man, he was a one man wrecking crew. They couldn't move the ball for nothing, except when he would have to come out, on the sidelines panting, he was so worn out. After he would catch his breath, he went right back in, and they would stall out again.
Unbelievable what he was doing that night!

Vince was our most dominant DT after 2000 but he was not like the four guys that have been mentioned in the thread. No disrespect to Vince, you just had to watch Jerome, Sapp, Tez and Big Russ and the difference is glaring. Vince has a great NFL career and has a shot at Canton!
Exactly....Love Big Vince like nobodies business...I remember sitting with him at UM in 01...this right after he lost both parents...
If I remember correctly, he either had a Baby on the way...or the Baby was just born...we talked for half an hour at the Rat...Great..Great Guy...But I just cannot put him on an All Time UM DL...And thats not taking Anything away from him...

Only played 2yrs...Unvelievable Talent...But would I put him starting over Jerome or Sapp at DT??....No....Better than Maryland??..Yeah...

Tough call. Too many great DTs in Canes history. Hard not to give Tez a starting spot.

Sapp only started 2 seasons, 93-94.

Man...what a run of DTs.

Another very good and overlooked DT at UM was Damione Lewis....6'2 300lbs and ran a 4.85 40....Loved him to Death...of course hes not in Jeromes or the others class...but was Fast as ****...and a Very Good player....1st round pick as well...Another Butch Gem...

And if we care to drop back into the past, Eddie Edwards was a beast. 3rd overall pick, I think.

I don't think he's overlooked, by most of the younger crowd that started watching during the butch era. He was a very highly recruited prospect and a hs AA, IIRC. Same with Quincy Hipps.

Maryland was Notorious for taking plays off at UM...It wasn't a Huge deal...because of that vaunted UM DL those yrs..

I know Russ is dripping in rings and hardware, but he took plays off in the NFL too. I remember Cowboy fans in school calling him weak b/c one moment he was a man amongst boys, and the next, he was a JAG. He was protected by a great Dallas defense, but yeah, he would definitely take plays off for sure.

I know this as Fact...

A few more DT's of note. Tony Cristiani 15 sacks Sr. year, Rubin Carter , Don Latimer, Don Smith, Jim Burt and Lester Williams. I think Latimer-Smith and Williams were all 1st round picks.
