Corn Elder

I should add that while pressure on the QB can and will help a corner out as will a well executed defense, corner is perhaps the most dependent position in the field where God given ability comes into play more than any other.

That's all fine and dandy.

Now somebody show me an instance where our CB's are struggling due to lack of pressure. It's not happening, at least not regularly. And up until this conversation it hasn't even been mentioned.

The thing that keeps being regurgitated is that the scheme is running our CB's, particularly Tracy Howard. Not one single time has anybody correlated his struggles with lack of pressure.

Paul Williams enough said playa. Dont know how to find the ball. Scheme, coaching, recruiting, and lack of anything that resembles anything any other power 5 team would put on the field all contribute. But on 3rd and 2 and you are 15 off the ball you are screwed.

Macho, what's your opinion of Williams? He's villified on this website and oddly enough, our secondary keeps producing some players.

He's not the most likeable dude I've ever met but I have no clue what exactly he does with his DB's so I couldn't honestly give an opinion on his coaching ability.

I mean, do you blame him for Tracy Howard's struggles or do you praise him for Corn Elder's rise? I don't know. *shrug*

Its funny, our secondary development hasnt been HORRIBLE. Is it up to elite standards? No. He still needs to be fired.

But when given good talent, they have shined. The scheme just sucks and we cant blame Paul for that.

Macho, you always said you thought Tracy was overrated. Great HS player, just not a 5*.

Burns and Elder have played good and great. Bush is playing lights out. Jenkins has been a ball hawk (albeit a crappy tackler) And Carter seems to have improved. Cant blame him for Crawford..that was Goldens fault. Should have never switched him.

Redwine isnt embarassing himself out there. Neither his Jaquan Johnson.

So I dont know about Paul either. But I do want him gone.

Our corners do not seem comfortable in man press. I don't see them turning around looking for the ball. They face guard the receiver all the way. That is coaching. Faceguarding is ok at first, but you need to turn and find that ball. Communication helps with this. When a pass is in the air are the other defensive players yelling ball! Also, our corners never seem to bump the receiver off their route. Just seems our man press is actually man/run with the receiver. Our corners are not trying to initiate the contact.

Lastly, man coverage is predicated on a pass rush. You can only hold down your coverage for 3-5 seconds before it starts to break down. We are terrible at:
1. Having our D-Line pressure the quarterback. This requires Miami to blitz in order to pressure the QB, this means less in coverage. and 2. Keep the quarterback contained.

If you give a quarterback, even a back up freshman *cough* like the one that raped our defense last week 6-8 seconds to throw he will pick apart man coverage.

So poor technique coaching for our corners followed by a poor pass rush talent usage, scheme, and coaching has led us to this mess of a pass defense.

Jesus Christ, get this raving lunatic off the board and away from kids.

I am no football expert but it seems to me the problem has in the past and still starts and stops with our inept DL and its inability to get any pressure. think about how much better all our DBs would be if we could get some actual penetration from our DL. BTW I am not defending the corches here. if its the scheme than its on them.
