Corch Manny Diaz Recruiting

Manny's OL would have gotten CAM killed and he would not have had all day to throw.
Completely missed the point. The 2024 season was a relative success because we got Cam Ward to transfer here. Not because Mario had built a great team. How many games does the 2024 team win if Cam goes to the NFL draft? Two? Three? Remember the defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed and we were 100% reliant on Cam out scoring the other team to win games. Were we going to get 40+ points per game with Emory Williams?

My whole point is that there’s supposed to be this huge gap in talent between the 2021 team and the 2024 team but the only real difference was one team had the best quarterback in the nation and the other had TVD.

This year is make or break. As of right now, Mario hasn’t done anything any run of the mill, average coach couldn’t do here. This year can change the whole script. We can win the conference. We can make the playoffs. We can have a bunch of Mario recruits become star players/draft picks. If that happens then, **** yes, we’re back. If we win 8 or 9 games and play in another pop tart bowl. He’s just Manny with a ****load more money.

This shouldn’t be controversial but it will be.

It means if Mario can’t win with this team, he isn’t going to win anything here. I doubt he would get fired. He would at least get one more year. After that he would be five years into an 8 year deal and buying out the rest of his deal isn’t unrealistic. Nobody waits until their coach’s contract is up to let them go. We don’t HAVE to suffer four extra seasons if he flops this year. While the powers that be might have a friendly relationship with him, that could easily sour with more mediocrity. The people actually paying the money for these players aren’t going to keep throwing their money in the garbage.
Ok pretty fair take. I would double down with what does “Mario can’t win with this team” mean? 10-3 and left out of the playoffs again? Is 11-2 and a first round bounce from the playoffs good enough? Or are you talking 8-4 with a trip to PoopTarts Bowl 2.0?

I’m not asking these questions to be a troll or pester you. UM is notoriously cheap and I can’t see them cutting him loose before he has less than three years on his deal, and I think that’s a stretch. It’s essentially why I’ve accepted Mario will be here for several more years and I don’t get too worked up over him. I could end up being wrong. However I just want to win.

I don’t know if the BOT and the athletic department have a win/loss baseline but I do know Mario was hired with the expectation of winning conference championships and competing for national championships. For the first time in the modern era, they’ve spent money like that is a serious expectation instead of just posturing for fans. How long will they go before they drop the hammer is anyone’s guess. I’m sure lots of factors are involved. The honeymoon period is over though. They expect to win now l

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my questions and not take them as an attack. There is a ton of hyperbole on this board (yep I do it too) and certain phrases and sayings get used a lot. Some annoy me - like UNACCEPTABLE! Others are just noteworthy because I'm not sure what the person using them actually means. Half the time, I don't think they really know what they mean by using them. Anyway, thank you and Go Canes.

I never bought the “opposing OC’s figure him out” line. The guy has been a DC for almost two decades. There’s a ton of film. It doesn’t take opposing coaches three years to decide to finally watch that tape of the North Carolina game to see what works. I’d venture a o say that’s the FIRST thing an opposing coach does when preparing for his team. The fact is that Manny is a ****** recruiter. His defenses play well when he has good players but as time goes on, he replaces them with worse players and they fall apart.
I do not disagree...

He's set a record at Texas, Miami, and PSU. Most rush yardage allowed in a game at all 3, AND most pass yardage allowed in a game at PSU and that was broken in the same season.

He feasts on the weak and gets battered by anyone with a pulse (Anae, Elliott, Longo) let alone good offensive coaches (Day, Harbaugh).

He's absolutely better with someone else's players. We'll see how long his defense plays well at Duke once Elko's players and coaching leave the program
Ahhh so he did do it at PSU as well...I guess I just overlooked it.... but ...Yea.... Just more to show how inept he was/is....
