Corch Manny Diaz Recruiting

Sorry.. But I disagree about being a good DC... Like Guidry, once Manny gets figured out he's helpless... Cannot out scheme quality OC's especially during a game...
I still think hes a good DC, I wouldnt put him in the must get, or great, category, but hes definitely not bad.

Get credit where its due.

Outside of the season he got fired at Texas (2013), I think hes had pretty decent defenses everywhere hes been.

If Manny had Cam Ward in 2021, would they have gone 7-5? What would Mario’s 2024 record have been without him? Having the ability to buy kids away from the NFL draft has kept us from having back to back seasons of Emory Williams.

Look, I’m not defending Manny. He was mediocre at best. I’m just saying Mario has been given EVERYTHING that previous UM coaches would have killed for. If given the same resources as Manny or Richt or even Golden, would his record be any better?
Even though Miami had some ****** lines under Manny, I'll go 9 or 10 wins.
Cam makes up the 3 losses by 8 points to UVA, UNC and FSU.
I'll may have to take a win back though where TVD went 76%/ 426 yds/ 3 TD's up at Pitt.

Here's the rub...
In 2020 we were 116th in sacks allowed. and 123rd in tackles for loss allowed.
For comparison Wazzou in 2023 was 114th/81st.

Cam would have never come here given those stats on our O-line play after what he went through at Washington State.

King got hurt in what, week 3 of the 2021 season? They were 1-2 at the time. They still managed to go 6-3 the rest of the way. Although I credit that to Rhett Lashlee, not Manny. Imagine if Cam got hurt in week three? No way they win 6 games the rest of the year. We would have finished right next to FsU in the standings.
But he didnt get hurt. And you are right.......it was all Lashlee. dIAZ didnt do **** but dig the program even deeper of a hole before he became HC. Couldnt recruit a good LB to save his life. That was his coaching position. Couldnt stop a above average OC/offense either

Did you watch our defense last year? That was with a bunch of blue chip recruits and high priced transfers. Imagine how bad it would have been if they didn’t give the staff millions to buy players? I’m still waiting for a Mario linebacker to do anything. We have to sign transfers every year because the guys he recruited can’t play.

Mario=Manny but with **** and a trust fund
This year is make or break. As of right now, Mario hasn’t done anything any run of the mill, average coach couldn’t do here. This year can change the whole script. We can win the conference. We can make the playoffs. We can have a bunch of Mario recruits become star players/draft picks. If that happens then, **** yes, we’re back. If we win 8 or 9 games and play in another pop tart bowl. He’s just Manny with a ****load more money.

Manny will always be a good DC, but he will never be a good HC. The guy doesnt have the sack. You can point at records, resources, whatever you want.

With some people, its very easy to tell whether he has what it takes or he does not.

Manny Diaz is The JD for football, for Miami. May have experience, and has been around the game a long time, but has never grew a real set of balls to get over the hump.
Good dc don’t he hold like 1 and 2 for the most rushing yards ever giving up in a game ?

As you typed this- Michael Carter and Javonte Williams just ran another one in for a touchdown.

What does “make or break” mean? What does it look like? If the team underachieves and goes 9-3 or (gasp) 8-4, what’s going to happen? How about 7-5? Does Mario get fired? Coordinators booted? I don’t see anything like that happening until he’s down to a couple years left on his original deal.

Now if you mean if the team poops out you’ll have personally given up on Mario, ok. I can buy that.

If I'm correct his Defenses at Texas and Miami set conference records for yards allowed in a game.... Not a good stat to pad your resume with.... Again..... Manny does well for a stretch but then opposing OC's see it coming and it all falls apart...
He's horrible at talent evaluation and was never a good recruiter....
He parlayed Penn St into another HC gig and good for him but let's see how it plays out...

It means if Mario can’t win with this team, he isn’t going to win anything here. I doubt he would get fired. He would at least get one more year. After that he would be five years into an 8 year deal and buying out the rest of his deal isn’t unrealistic. Nobody waits until their coach’s contract is up to let them go. We don’t HAVE to suffer four extra seasons if he flops this year. While the powers that be might have a friendly relationship with him, that could easily sour with more mediocrity. The people actually paying the money for these players aren’t going to keep throwing their money in the garbage.

I never bought the “opposing OC’s figure him out” line. The guy has been a DC for almost two decades. There’s a ton of film. It doesn’t take opposing coaches three years to decide to finally watch that tape of the North Carolina game to see what works. I’d venture a o say that’s the FIRST thing an opposing coach does when preparing for his team. The fact is that Manny is a ****** recruiter. His defenses play well when he has good players but as time goes on, he replaces them with worse players and they fall apart.

6-7 / 5-7
8-3 / 7-6
7-5 / 10-3

I am not one who thinks Mario is the greatest thing to ever happen but if you cant see the difference between those two records and where the program is now entering year 4 vs where it was headed if Manny continued into his year 4 its hard to take you seriously.
It's not that they CAN'T see it. It's that they don't WANT to see it.

Big difference. 🤷‍♂️

Manny's OL would have gotten CAM killed and he would not have had all day to throw.

Of course.
Put Cam on any of our 7/8 win teams and he'll add 2 or 3 wins.
He was the best player to ever play the position for us.

But he wouldn't just go to any team, especially 2021 Miami,
where he'd be pressured and on his back just as much as he was at Wazzou.

Can we put Ray Lewis at LB on last year's team...or ST at safety?.

He's set a record at Texas, Miami, and PSU. Most rush yardage allowed in a game at all 3, AND most pass yardage allowed in a game at PSU and that was broken in the same season.

He feasts on the weak and gets battered by anyone with a pulse (Anae, Elliott, Longo) let alone good offensive coaches (Day, Harbaugh).

He's absolutely better with someone else's players. We'll see how long his defense plays well at Duke once Elko's players and coaching leave the program
