I dont know how good or not good this kid is currently. But for years this program had bad hires all over on position coaches. A lot of "What if" this kid had a better position coach, someone to get through to him, etc. Obviously not always the coaches fault. Some kids peak in high school or just dont have the work ethic.

But in this day and age I'd almost never completely write off any 4/5 star until you get the whole story. Especially considering you can get them at bottom shelf costs.

By "bottom-shelf cost" you mean he pays us to play?

He made some plays as a freshman. Good special teams player IIRC. I think the ship has likely sailed here though. I assume he's looking for more PT; not sure this is the best destination for him.

Sounds like a multitude of things were going on with him. Biggest being he was getting passed up, and the new DC really didn't pull any punches in a recent presser about guys not doing what they were coached to do and making mistakes.

Freelancing and getting beat will land you in a coaches doghouse more than just getting beat but following the techniques and fundamentals being coached. Sounded like the former with him and possibly others that have bounced.

Change of scenery may be good for him, but think we need to be more forward thinking at this point.
