Congratulations to Santana Moss...

Back during the 1996 HS high school football season, my brother used to send me VHS tapes of the local soFla high school highlights plus game tapes of local hs fb games, including Carol City HS where Santana and his teammates made a playoff run, eventually winning the state title. Back in the pre-CIS days, Cane fans would post to the Grassy site and ask recruiting questions to Mike Bakas. I remember asking Bakas and others about Moss because every time I watched Carol City he seemed to be making big-time plays. The response I got was that he "was a track guy", "too small", "coaches not interested" and so on. Apparently, Butch and his staff were on to him and Thank Goodness as he was a special. Anyways, some of the old-timers on Grassy used to joke that I "discovered" Santana.
I know.
Cool story, bro.
Congratulations to Moss!

congrats to Tana.

GREAT SIGNING BY BUTCH HOWEVER HE DID IT.

Led to us getting his brother Nori (sinorice moss) who played well for us and cousing Glenn Sharpe who also did well for us.

We also had his other relative zach moss locked up and i forgot which coach came in but he ended up dropping zach who went on to sign with utah and make it to get drafted in the nfl as a rb.

Also my roots plug: The best wrs from the carol city/miami gardens area are always bahamian:
Santana Moss
Sinorice Moss
Ethenic Sands
JJ Smith
Dwayne Bowe (Norland)

I grew up watching and playing optimist and hs football in the 1970s and it seems every team had kids with surnames Moss, Lester, Bishop, and Rolle which (correct me if I'm wrong) are very common names in the Bahamas. My brother played at American HS, and they had several Faulkners play there and I believe at Carol City HS too. All big and athletic kids. Some of them played hoops and I wondered why weren't they on the fb team as they looked more the part then many of the fellow classmates on the fb team. I do believe the Faulkners were from the Virgin Islands though. Anyways, some big-boned athletic kids in Northwest Dade. Must be the Conch Fritters. Lol.

I'm telling you if the nfl ever did like how they did with america samoa (donate equipment and run yearly camps) in the bahamas they would pump out prospects. They had hs ball in grand bahama for a short time in the 2000s and that led to atleast 5-6 div 1 football players. 2 of them in the acc at duke and VA TECH.
The Moss's, Rolle's are definite Bahamians. We had Omar Rolle (**** i forgot to list him as he is from Norland/Miami Gardens. Samari and Myron Rolle ended up at FSU.

Most Bahamians can really run. Track is a big deal there...but there are just flat out alot of raw runners. Bball is the main sport as of late there. But we play some good baseball there as well.

But there are a ton of 6'4-6'5 200+ kids walking around there with bball dreams. And there are a bunch of kids with blazing speed that dont even know what they are doing lol. When they get into programs and s&c they take off.

The one guy who has been mining talent from there locally is a guy this board doesnt like much lol

**** we even produced qbs recently...from last class

* His dad is a Bahamian tennis legend. This kid actually held a football camp on his own last year in the bahamas.

I remember that vividly. In his defense, he wasn't the only one saying it. Lucky back then we could finagle a track scholarship to get him in the fold.

Bring back that Moss speed... One of my all-time favorites growing up.
im a guy that think we should yearly bring in one of the fastest s.fla kids regardless of size n weight.

Just one of those guys if u lump a few of them in classes will hit.

these types:

Just save one spot per class for just a blazer....or if u skip a class and do it.
