I decided to look back on our historical conference records to see how we have performed. I think this is a better indicator of a coach's performance than overall record, as it removes any cupcakes. The last time we won 6 conference games was under Coker in 2005 when we got destroyed by LSU in the peach bowl. It's crazy to think we have not been able to go 6-2 in conference play for 12 years. For perspective, our current recruits weren't even in kindergarten yet... This year, we have a good shot of breaking this trend. Currently 4-0, need to win 2 of UNC, Pitt, Uva and VT to pull it off and turn the corner

since being in the ACC(2004),

have we ever beat virginia tech & georgia tech in the same season? or how about UNC, va-tech, & ga-tech?

we beat VT and GT in the same season 2 years ago, but that was the year we gave up 58 to clemson (Enter Larry Scott) and 59 to UNC.

all we've ever had to do since 2004, is go 3-0 vs ga-tech, va-tech, & UNC ....and we havent been able to.

is this finally the year???

It's kind of interesting. As fans, we always make our big out of conference game and our FSU game as make or break for obvious reasons. Those games resonate nationally and mean more personally. But the biggest game of the year for us should be Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech to a lesser extent because they have a crossover vs. Clemson which they are going to lose 80% of the time. Virginia Tech doesn't have that tough cross over game built in yearly (they play BC), so beating them is critical to the Coastal

The years where we won some of those bigger games, we'd find a way to blow it with a loss to UVA, etc

FSU and Notre Dame predate our entry into the ACC. FSU we’re rivals back in Schnelly’s Day.

VT has never had the emotional impact to us that the Nole game has had.

If and when we beat UNC, if Clemson beats GT. The VT game will be for the Coastal title!

It was pretty obvious at the beginning of the season the success of this season was going to be Va Tech. That’s a must win

That VT has never developed into a bigger rival has always disappointed me. Consistently talented squad in the same division, and you can't find many schools that are less alike. Country town vs big city. State school vs private institution. Geographically opposite. Former Big East foes. It's always seemed like a really easy narrative.

Not true...it's a newer rivalry, but it goes back to the BiG East days when we were trying to get back on track from probation and VT kept giving us the business. Don't forget that in 1999-2004 pretty much, VT was the conference litmus test. I hate VT bc they have mostly been good and played us competitive coupled with the fact that the winner of this game typically goes on to win the conference in terms of the Big East, or the Division in the ACC Coastal. It's a rivalry game...

Doesn't matter if GT wins or loses, this game is for the Coastal. We have the tie breaker over GT making an identical conference record give us the edge head to head.

It does matter. GT has 1 loss now. If we win the next two games we still have two games against UVA and Pitt, if GT wins out and we lose those two they win the Coastal. If they lose to Clemson and we Beat VT and UNC, then GT can only finished tied with us.

Va Tech is our season now. We can afford to drop the ND game however that would suck.

We win nothing if we don't beat Va Tech.

We are not losing to garbage *** UVA or Pitt...was already counting wins there. Was strictly looking at the VT game win/loss outcome and how it affects our standing in the Coastal.

I'm talking statistically. Neither VT or GT would be able to beat us, which would make the pregame build up huge for us to basically lock it up and btw that would still depend on what UVA does to make it official.

Woud not mind one bit if Duke or GT beat VT. ****, if Duke upsets VT this weekend, I could care less of the drop in hype for our game with VT next weekend. It just gives us a critical 1 game buffer in case we lose to VT. At this point in the program under Richt, I will take every and any help to get us to Charlotte.

I would hope so as well. If VT lose to Duke, they're done for sure. If they come in as is. They will be under alot of pressure knowing it's over for them if they lose to us. Which they will.
