I lived in Hanover PA, right on the boarder of McSherrystown PA, which is the catholic capital of PA, and during football season, everyone flew their ND flags in their yards and on their cars, and I proudly had my Canes flag flying in my yard. It was amazing to see all these "good catholic people" on their way home from church flipping me off as they drove by my yard................**** them.

I mean, I'm a Miami fan, I understand the dynamic. But I'm not gonna debate the exact numbers throughout college teams. Go ask your AI about Texas A&M.

The point is college football is dependent on attachment to an institution. That's whether you went there yourselves, your family members did, your mom works there, the hospital system in your area is run by the school, etc. The University of Miami is the 2nd largest employer in Miami Dade.

Professional sports teams are entertainment entities. Colleges are part of the community.

No but I did know a guy that was an incredible RB at a local high school, had to go to a prep school for a year due to grades, that did go to ND on a football scholarship, and played FB under Ara Parsegian in that infamous TIE game vs Michigan State in 1966.

"Attachment to an institution" is the broadest test that exists. All it means is "you like that school" period. If you live in Alabama ... that's your school. Miami has a very small alumni base and UM only employees 22,000 people. However there are literally millions of UM fans all over the country, even in Europe, that follow the football program. You hear recruits from other parts of the county stating "man, I always liked Miami, liked the way the played". Go Canes .. Beat ND!!

"For instance, an anti-expansion provision remains a fluid subject that, as of the latest discussions, would cap conference membership at 19 schools and require programs moving from one power conference to another to operate as an independent for five years. Such a move may expedite another wave of conference expansion as schools jockey to elevate themselves — such as ACC programs moving to the Big Ten or SEC — before the bill passes."

It's not uncommon that these announcements happen after media days and before the start of the season

July 26, 2021: Oklahoma and Texas announce they're leaving the Big XII for the SEC

July 27, 2023: Colorado announces it's leaving the Pac-12 for the Big XII

August 4, 2023: Oregon and Washington announce they're leaving the Pac-12 for the B1G; Arizona, Arizona State and Utah announce they're leaving the Pac-12 for the Big XII

September 1, 2023: Cal and Stanford announce they're leaving the Pac-12 for the ACC

Worth noting that senate sponsors are pushing for a floor vote on the Protect College Sports Act before the congressional summer recess begins on August 7th (16 days from today)

Was it a pump-and-dump scheme, and did you end up having to pay a six-figure fine and agreeing to never serve as an officer in a publicly traded company? If so, it may yet be the same dream.

Schemes? I bumped into a kid i went to school undergrad with. Was working in Panama with Chiquita in 1975 and bumped into Ricardo on the runway at Paitilla airport (was a small airport in the center of Panama City). Ricardo pointed to a hangar ... "this is my cargo airline" was his statement. I congratulated him on his business success and we never talked again. Fast forward ... turns out that Ricardo bought into that airline with a "loan " for $1.5 million from Carlos Ochoa ... Medellin Cartel. Ricardo's airline had been doing some arms movement to Cuba / Nicaragua etc. He did a few favors for Carlos that were drug related ... then Ochoa passed his debt (flipped the loan) to Pablo Escobar ... and Ricardo then became one of Escobar's vehicles of getting cocaine OUT of Colombia and pallets of $USD back TO Colombia from the US.

He worked as an aide to General Torrijos until Torrijos was murdered ... then was "associated" with Manuel Noriega who was getting $500K on each flight he permitted into and out of Panama. It all ended when one of Ricardo's planes was grabbed in the USA with a ton of cocaine and he ended up being THE witness that put Noriega in a US prison. He could have spent 50 years in prison .. but his plea deal gave him a 10 year sentence and he was permitted to keep something like $42 million ...so his family did quite well. Lot of crazy days back in Panama and Colombia (lived there about 8 years full time).

When did you live in Hanover? I grew up there in the 80s and 90s.

Admits KU to the SEC is basically just a throw-in as "there's a huge gap we believe between 3 and 4 ... and there's probably a gap between 3 and 4 on the Big Ten list as well. Anything after that third tier and you're gonna need a lot of things to go your way."

Tiers ... meh. You either believe a school will receive and accept an offer from a conference or not. Sankey and Petitti clearly have an ultimate number of teams in mind and pretty sure each knows who's going where for the most part.

I'm bored with no real Canes news going on, so I'll throw it out there.

If I'm the BiG, I take Miami and Ga Tech before UNC or the other names being tossed around. If the Domers wanted in on equal terms, sure, but that's never going to happen. They want to stay independent or get special treatment.

Miami and GT are in the two best media markets in the South East, they're quality research institutes, they are committed to high level sports. Miami is a no brainer, best brand not in the P2, better brand than any but the Top 3-5 of the P2. GT needs more work, but a conditional BiG invite would draw out their alumni. They'd throw $$$ at the opportunity.

A dark horse for me would be SMU. Those big finance and big oil boys would come flying in to support that move. They could be a real brand with the right marketing effort. And Dallas trumps Austin or Norman.
