dude, there is no way acc is making up what is going to get worse and worse gap with the p2. like zero. not trying to be a **** but there's not a shot.

Only way that happens if the acc and big 10 forces their hand . Stop playing them unless they join a conference . If nobody plays them they’ll have to join either acc or big 10 . The ncaa needs to get rid of that bs rule they put in place for them too

Well yes to the point that for the vast majority it would be bad. But I disagree this would be bad for us or is bad for ND. ND is making $50M/yr from NBC. B1G distributed $76M/school while SEC distributed $72M/school. And that is for half the schools being much worse media draws then Miami/FSU/Clemson/etc are. ND the "struggle" is in scheduling. The more independents there are the easier it actually is to schedule. The difficulty is in the SEC/B1G playing 9 or maybe 10 conference games. I mean technically I think the real "struggle" is actually just non-football schools.

I think Amazon and Netflix would love to get into the CFB business and be the home of a couple big brand independent programs. I bet we would make more money independent than we do through the ACC. But it isn't truly an independent vs ACC view for accounting because The issue is paying the ACC exit fee. That's why we would need closer to that $70M/yr...

But like if we just eliminated the ACC exit costs, I think us, ND, FSU, etc would be perfectly fine as independents.

i mostly agree with you unless the ACC literally drops to like 8 schools (including ND) and drops all the deadweight.. those other conferences are being dragged down by deadweight as well and if ACC looked like:

Miami
ND
FSU
Clemson
UNC
LOU
VT
GT

we could get close to matching a per school payout of the B1G and SEC.. but that would require something that is extremely unlikely (dropping 8+ programs).

A more realistic option (besides joining the P2) would be 8 schools leaving the ACC together and forming a new conference...

nope it still won't catch up even inthat model. would close the gap a bit maybe. and notre dame is never doing that- they would go big ten first.
 
The SEC "breaking away" to form its own "league" would be a disaster and $$$ would gradually tighten on any media deals. You can only sell so much Dr. Pepper, and the big NATIONAL ADVERTISERS that target higher earnings markets will not plan on spending much on a regional ad program. Not a lot of national interest in watching today's version of Bama playing Vanderbilt.

College football works because most people went to these schools they cheer for, there's 130+ of them, and everyone technically has a chance. Look at Indiana. That's the dream college football sells.

The second you remove that the entire thing will fall apart.
 
Imagine for a minute if MiLB didn't exist and college baseball was HUGE. It was the only path to the MLB. It would be wild and college baseball would be HUGE and big time money and much more prestigious.

(Now...back to current times) Its wild to watch the college football model (relatively speaking) slowly morph into a minor league NFL in present day. The shift to a MILB > MLB model is taking place now in the sport of football.

In the near future: 'The Miami Hurricanes, sponsored by the Univ. of Miami and XYZ Corporation and ABC, Inc. The Florida State Seminoles, sponsored by 123 Corp. & 789, Inc.'

Football is moving to schools sponsoring teams to play a minor league football. (minor league of the NFL)

Disagree .... the vast majority of FANS rooting for a school on TV NEVER ATTENDED THAT SCHOOL ... but are fans of the program. It is estimated (my buddy AI) ... that Alabama for example, no more than 20% of fans watching games on TV attended Bama. That number is even lower in the case of ND, where many "Catholics" are born into ND fandom.

Then I was born again when I was accepted into UM.

I was born and raised in Northeastern PA in a town that was predominantly Catholic (99%) and during football season the priests at mass on Sunday's would close with "and pray for Notre Dame", same with the Catholic grade school I attended. Irish Pubs (basically any bar!!) same.
