MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

He’s a butthurt Washington State fan mad about his Cougars getting left behind in realignment.

If the Big XII was simultaneously going down this private equity path while showing interest in WSU, he wouldn’t say a word.

Of course this was going to happen. How they kept tax exempt status until now is a miracle, but they were able to do it by staying business as usual for decades. Now that power and money is consolidating in the $EC and B1G with only so much space to go around for further realignment, there will be plenty more ruffled feathers on Capitol Hill looking to take away that status. Hard to argue it should still be there frankly.

Yormark seems to wisely have followed an "incentivized" approach to expansion that I believe Sankey is using with ACC schools.

Paraphrasing here but something along the lines of SEC insinuating "first show us you are truly $eriou$ about competing at a high level in football and then we can "talk" about possible expansion opportunities we may have."

In other words, don't think we're going to bring you in half-assing it in football with an ACC-level budget and you can simply make up ground when you start depositing hose bigger SEC media rights checks.

We see what we've done at Miami. What UNC has done. What Duke has done. What Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech are doing. And so on.

Smart strategy, imo, to make ACC schools to level up for the SEC or (in USF's case) G5 schools do the same for Yormark and a promotion to the Big XII
It is smart. If enough schools level up though, does it cause the ACC and/or the Big XII to rise in stature, reputation, and eventually TV $$?

They're all around Nashville with one announced for Memphis. They're putting up a regional HQ in Franklin, TN, so you'd think they'll be opening more.

Yes. They don't freeze their burgers, so they need regional hubs for the food distribution.

I've heard they will be coming down the interstate towards Atlanta in the next few years.

My friend, when I lived on the west coast of Florida, I was SHOCKED by how many "Michigan" and "Illini" and "Iowa" fans I would encounter, both wearing their gear and at "watch parties" at local sports bars. It's wild. You also see tremendous crowds for the bowl games held in Tampa and Orlando. Eye-opening.

I'm just pointing out...what we ONCE thought of USF, and what it might be (once the magical fairy dust of a P4 is sprinkled on them) are two completely different things. MASSIVE population (including all the way down to Fort Myers/Bonita/Naples, which means there are TWO television markets) and a lot of natural connections to the midwest (via I-75).

And the new on-campus stadium doesn't hurt.

Here's the truth: The UCF on-campus stadium is looking into whether they can pull Pop-Tarts/Cheez-Its Bowls away from the Citrus Bowl. If the USF stadium is able to pull bowl games away from the RayJay...you never know...

Given the move to 9-conference-game schedules, I would NOT be shocked if USF and Miami work out a way for Miami to play in the new stadium in 2027...right now, the "marquee opponent" is Louisville...

USF (I'm sure that USF would prefer to put Miami where FAMU currently sits):

Miami (assuming we have 5 ACC home games in 2027):

The Citrus Bowl was a dump in 2013 when I was at the Russell Athletic Bowl. Apparently they made “renovations” over the years. Went to the Pop Tart Bowl last year. Ummm what did they renovate? Memory could be fried since. Idk

On campus, bro!
I used to be an advocate for our own venue but eh, **** it. I think it’s time to accept reality that it ain’t happening. If billionaire connected Mario Bro (Ruiz) couldn’t do it then no one can. The only way it ever happens is if the Marlins leave and give our land back to us OB Natives but even that’s a stretch assuming the Marlins moved somewhere else. They’d probably build a high rise in its place if they tore that **** down.

HR is fine when there are big games there. Our fans show up for that. They won’t show up for Miami vs Duke but if our rivals come to town or other big brands, we will put down our coconut ****tails and make our way over.

FAU’s stadium is actually pretty nice though.
