MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

ND independent in football, in the Big 10 for hockey, and in the ACC for everything else.

Edit: didn’t our baseball team stay independent while we in the Big East?
It did. I don't think they had much interest in going to Syracuse in February and March to play conference games

This is what schools like USC and Oregon should have done instead of having their soccer teams have to commute to Happy Valley, but the issue is that conferences they were leaving felt gilted and would not allow it and in the case of the PAC12, there was no longer a conference to play in.

I suspect when they inevitably do more consolidation into the likely super league that they will abandon the idea of tying a school's non-football sports to the same league that the football team is in.

This says FSU, Clemson, Miami are the three ACC teams that get multiple ratings so the B1G and SEC will be looking to add them plus ND. The B!g could also add Texas Tech who clearly has the $$$ to be good and helps the B1G reach the texas market. Personally, I doubt they take Texas Tech over SMU, TCU, or Baylor who are all more central Texas.
The USF game being on CW really screwed TD in Week 3. It only got 650K viewers, but I’m sure it would have done better if it had been on an ESPN network.

dont think they take. any of them

Could be true. DFW is a massive market with lots of draw and lots of recruits. Tons of money too.

It would be pretty funny to watch multiple Texas schools make it to the cfp and win games beating these elite B1G and sec schools. Dont think for a second they won’t have the money and much easier schedules to pull it off.

Plus the 2hr rain delay
The 2 hour lightning delay was the bigger issue.
The lightning delay wasn’t at the very beginning of the game though - it wasn’t until the second quarter. Hardly anyone had already been watching the game when the delay happened. The numbers suck considering we were playing a ranked team, who had beaten UF the week before (although I just checked again, and it is 720K, not 650K). We tied with Houston Christian v. Nebraska on FS1. So although the lightning delay certainly did not help, I don’t think it was the main reason.

I had to watch the USF game on a YouTube stream. We don’t have an exclusive CW channel in Indy.
That is a factor too. I should have noted that the 720K number is the Nielsen Big Data number too, which includes all streaming / Smart TVs, etc.

I wish we had the UF-USF game numbers to compare, but Nielsen still doesn’t publicly report the ACC and SEC Network numbers.

Let's see how many of those dollars Northern Illinois gets if the Mountain West collects less than what it's aiming for in its legal battle with the Pac-12.

Very good chance UNLV and Air Force bail if the MWC commissioner can't deliver the bonus payments she promised those two schools so they wouldn't follow Boise and the other four members out the door..

An MWC minus Vegas and AFA would be a G5 bottom feeder on the level of CUSA or the MAC.

At that point, NIU is begging the MAC to take them back for a second time

We've seen measures along this line from several ACC schools, which imo points to those institutions doing whatever it takes financially to get themselves "SEC/B1G ready" if/when that opportunity arrives. Let's get real: a university isn't all of a sudden spending those kinds of dollars to remain in a conference that's hanging by a thread and stuck with a media partner unwilling to throw a lifeline (see ESPN offering zero extra dollars for the ACC's addition of a ninth conference game for football)

There are 11 schools that have at least a puncher's chance of getting into the SEC or B1G: The so-called" Magnificent 7" (Miami, FSU, Clemson, UNC, NCSU, UVA and VT) along with Duke, Georgia Tech, Stanford and Cal. Seems likely the message from Sankey (and Tony Petitti) could be summed up as: "We're not funding your conference promotion. Get your money in place ASAP, then we'll see what expansion opportunities may be available."

When a conference offers a sport, u can’t just say I’m going to have my volleyball team in this conference, & my baseball team in this conference. Lol.

ND is an Independent, where all their non football sports r in the ACC except hockey. The ACC doesn’t have DI Hockey.

Wasn't suggesting a la carte, but rather that USC could have joined the BIG10 for football only and the non-revenue sports stayed regional. Schools are going to have to do some flavor of this anyway once the inevitable super league is formed.

I’m telling u as of now u can’t do that. Lol. Maybe that’ll change in the future, but as it currently stands when a conference offers all sports, u’re a member of all sports.
