These ma$$ive viewership numbers most certainly matter to the suits in Bristol, Connecticut.

Might be worth it to the big bosses at ESPN to write a big enough check to overcome any "misgivings" SEC presidents have about bringing Miami into the fold.

Letting big brands walk away to your competitors isn't good business after all

ESPN is definitely noticing. Dont be surprised, especially if in a couple weeks Gameday goes to FSU and the game draws huge numbers, if they start to pressure the SEC to take the combo of Miami and FSU. Could you imagine yearly opponents of FSU and UF?
Of course. It would be awesome.

Hopefully they don't look at the past 20 years of how that mindset has worked out for the ACC.

Ultimately, it comes down to the decision-makers at each of the SEC member schools signing off on what Sankey presents for expansion.

It's also possible (likely?) the SEC commissioner and ESPN are on the same page -- as we saw with the greenlit ninth conference game for which beginning next year ESPN will pay an additional $80M annually (or $10M per game!!).

Seeing how college sports are more than ever about revenue, would ESPN, if necessary to grease the skids, ante up a big enough to check to ensure The U remained in its inventory?

Would be kind of funny if SEC took UM and FSU, but no one wanted Clemson so they got stuck with the Big 12.

Their fall has come at a really bad time.

They're not a blue blood. They don't really bring anything ratings wise (if they're not dominant). They don't bring a geographical region with them.

I disagree on the your second observation. Growing up in NC i will say Clemson dominates college football in NC and SC. Their games were carried in all of major TV markets in those states. NC and SC are both among fastest growing states.

To me Clemson is a brand that has LOCAL market appeal but is very weak on a national level, compared to Miami and FSU. And right now it seems like we are back to the good ol days when "Clemsoning" was a synonym for underperforming.

I agree with that. I was responding to the statement where Clemson does not bring a geographic region with them.

This says FSU, Clemson, Miami are the three ACC teams that get multiple ratings so the B1G and SEC will be looking to add them plus ND. The B!g could also add Texas Tech who clearly has the $$$ to be good and helps the B1G reach the texas market. Personally, I doubt they take Texas Tech over SMU, TCU, or Baylor who are all more central Texas.
