MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

I missed MIAMI and FSU signed contract for yearly games. LINK?
"In “another appeasement move,” the ACC has agreed to schedule its “top teams” more frequently in the annual matchups with Notre Dame. The current plan is an annual Notre Dame–Clemson game, with Florida State and Miami rotating. That leaves three other ACC–Notre Dame games parceled out for the other 14 league members. "

Only Clemson yearly, Miami and FSU rotating. The only thing ND "knows" about Clemson, Miami, and FSU is it gives their schedule a bit more credibility and the only thing Clemson, FSU, and Miami know about ND is they get a bigger share of the ACC payout than other schools.

They have an infant through puberty agreement so they KNOW SOMETHING

For as hearsay and tea leaves this THREAD garners, this is actually more evidence of SOMETHING than anything else posted

Clemson just placed/hedged a massive bet on the BigTen, and hitched its wagon to Notre Dame, absolutely guaranteed they cut a side deal for future BigTen tv money to be funneled to ND

Clemson would have an uphill battle to the BigTen because of small tv market and no AAU status, now ND+Clemson are a done deal, maybe even some sort of reciprocity deal with SEC for Clemson

You are adding 1+1 and getting 4 as an answer and reading way too much into this Clemson/ND annual game.

ESPN basically said we're not exercising the ACC TV option unless we get more marquis games. Clemson/Miami/FSU are the only marquis names in the ACC and FSU/Miami already play one another every year.

"..For Clemson, an annual game against one of the biggest brands in college football figures to juice ratings for the Tigers as the ACC begins a new era in which revenue is distributed, in part, based on TV ratings..."

So, are our Canes seeking these marquee matchups?

I knkw there is a home-home with Auburn coming up...a start I guess...

If the SEC implements their 9 conference game mandate we'll probably lose the Auburn and Carolina games.

If Clemson lands in the sec watch how fast that contract doesn't mean ****.

(y)

Remember a few months ago when the insurmountable GoR required schools to cough up more than a half-billion dollars for an early exit from the ACC? Ironclad was how the experts described it.

I don’t even say much about all this stuff but I saw that and said “Huh???” wtf would ND care about Clemson… like do ND and Clemson even know each other?
They just mutually agreed to play one another annually for the next 12 years. That took a bit of MUTUAL interest to accomplish and raised quite a few eyebrows.

Would you think then ESPN will demand perriennial FSU vs Miami vs Clemson vs ND matchups each season?

So would that round robin take priority over regular ACC scheduling?

You make a good point here.

And neither is MIAMI

how’s that for a hot take. 2030 super league comes about and MIAMI joins the super league and B1G never happens

It raised no eyebrows. The article I linked earlier is dated 3/5/25 on Sports Business Journal and it describes how the ACC's settlement with Clemson & FSU created a current plan for Clemson to play ND annually and rotate Miami and FSU every year. In case you missed it

Have to disagree wholeheartedly with your comment that the ND -Clemson 12 game agreement "raised no eyebrows". The story "Notre Dame & Clemson Announce 12 Game Football Series" was a feature headline on a broad range of sports news network / podcast broadcasts and it even sparked a lot of debate "does this mean Clemson is headed TO the B10 with ND" etc. The ACC settlement might have laid the groundwork for that negotiation / agreement but both schools were advertising / promoting it as a scheduling coup that would benefit them in brand exposure and boost recruiting.

Good stuff...wasn't aware.

So Notre Dame now runs ACC at their convenience.

Holy cuckville ****amole.

Question for All:

When faced with brutal reality (what we think anyways) of 2030-ish CFP landscape...

Does B1G:
- Stick to its "AAU" principles for membership...or...
- Bring in anyone that adds value/hurts SEC?

This answer is fundamental to how both B1G and SEC will approach next round of expansion?

Bonus round:
- Will weaker B1G/SEC teams be shown the door?

Personally, I think a mega conference is created cherry picked from B1G, SEC, ACC, Big 12, and possibly PAC-whatever.

Pretty much and UM/Clemson/FSU want to do it b/c the future revenue share payments from the ACC are based upon 3 year rolling TV numbers.

Helps their SOS, fans love it, doesn't hurt their path to the ACCCG, and let's the revenue be roughly equal to their peers with an easier path to the playoffs. Win win win.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that the experts guaranteed Miami would be in the BigTen by 2023. My bad.

Just to add to the “3rd hand comments from people who know somebody who is connected to someone with contacts in the B10”, there is a realignment thread on the Penn State board and the “most connected” poster there has stated “I just received an update - Clemson has been vetted and the B10 - for the time being - is passing on Clemson. Their goal is to take FSU + Miami as soon as 2028 - unless FSU is picked up by the SEC - in which case they would most likely hold off on adding programs until 2030 and would then add Miami and maybe a Ga Tech or Duke.”
