Miami needs to be good at SOMETHING again. Academics or Athletics. Our administration is so f#cking incompetent that saying that we should be good at both is just a laughable proposition. So pick one. Shalala at least had UM going in the right direction academically. We were moving towards top 25, probably would be in the neighborhood of USC reputation wise. Since she left, Frenk flushed UMs rep like a smelly **** and we have returned to being “Suntan U”.
In terms of Athletics, we are going into a life or death negotiation for UM sports. What have we put on tape for the P2? Cristobal being given the biggest budget in the history of the program and bumbling around for two seasons, then finally making it look like we were headed to the ACC championship and faceplanting again due to yet another bad coordinator hire and terrible roster management.
Basketball and baseball are so bad that broadcasting games into the Gaza Strip is considered a war crime by the UN.
If I was running one of the P2s, I would treat UM like the International Monetary Fund treats corrupt countries asking for loans. They only get the loans if they make all the painful economic changes dictated by the IMF. Likewise, P2 should demand that UM replace the entire Board of Trustees with competent leaders, get a school president who has a track record of running a D1 program and maintaining academic and athletic excellence (sorry Joe Echevarria, you don’t qualify), and absolutely, unequivocally ,demand UM replace Sleepy Dan Rad as the AD as a condition to joining the P2. P2 leaders dont want another bottom feeder, and I would be very concerned (and rightfully so) that if UM landed in a P2, UM leadership would hoist up a “Mission Accomplished “ banner and then stop putting any effort into winning championships or the schools academic reputation. In other words, UM would continue its clown act like it has for the past few years.
