How the CFP will be different in 2026: Changes for Notre Dame, auto-bids and money distribution

Though the CFP is remaining at 12 teams in 2026, much of the value behind the scenes is about to change significantly.

They just changed the CFP so the teams participating don't earn bonuses for their conferences any more. Absolute bull****. Just favors the SEC and B1G who even if they don't win a CFP game (or even play in the CFP at all??) will make more than an ACC or B12 team who WINs the CFP. Absolutely ******* bs

Are they going to tell the conferences what their schools can spend the money on next? The non-$EC or B1G conferences can only blame themselves for voting for this stupidity.

Always makes me laugh when people bring up Spygate and Deflategate. Our very own coach Jimmy Johnson has been on record numerous times calling out that he and his staff and several others in the NFL were doing the same things at the time. Not to mention, filming itself wasn't illegal. The only thing they were guilty of was the positioning/placement of the cameras lol.

Deflategate has been scientifically debunked and then the NFL swore they were going to do testing the following year to prove the data wasn't correct. Weirdly, we never again heard about those reports lol I wonder why?

The fact that Bill didn't get in is absolutely insane and SHOULD be the nail in the coffin that makes the NFL look at how any of this **** is decided. Polian, Dungy and their cronies have seemingly done the impossible and made Bill Belichick appear to be a sympathetic guy. I low key think Robert Kraft lead the charge and Polian was the one who brought it to the voters though. The fact that the Krafts haven't expressed any kind of disagreement or stood up for Bill is kind of wild.

Cold as **** lol 19" of snow over this past weekend.

Regardless of him getting in next year, they just set the precedent that personal feelings matter more than on field results for the Hall of Fame. The amount of people coming out and speaking on this is way more backlash than they planned for. Can't ignore it at all.

They didn't "just change the CFP payout rules". That was done in the Spring of 2024, effective for the 2026 season (the new CFP contract) and through the 31-32 season. The "agreement " included contractually ceding format change decisions to the B10 & SEC, and also established the "conference payout" % that heavily favor the B10 and SEC.

SEC & B10 schools will get around $21 million
ACC schools will make around $14 million
B12 schools will make around $12 million
ND will receive around $12 million

The "negotiations" basically came down to the B12 and ACC agreeing to the conditions put on the table by the "P2" or they were going to split and just hold their own championship. So here we are.

BS .... virtually all of the conference split % were publicized in 2024 when the meetings took place. It is nothing new so I don't understand the shock .... I was reading about it as it took place. Heather Dinich had an article covering the changes ESPN dated March 19, 2024. Let Google assist you in seeing the reports from MULTIPLE sources describing the agreement and it's impact.
