MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

Update on today’s House hearing (is there a different thread for this? I couldn’t find one, so apologies if this is in the wrong place…)

Judge’s last sticking point before approving the House settlement seems to be concern for future athletes and ensuring that they will receive due process under the settlement. She wants them to retain the ability to object, and how they will be able to do so under the law is still being worked out. They will meet again in one week to review the attorneys’ amendments, but Judge is happy otherwise and expectation is that she will approve in ~three weeks and everything will move forward on July 1.

I don’t know anything about her other than the fact that she’s been involved with this case, so my opinion of her is pretty neutral. How come you don’t like her? Is it because of something on this case, or something previously?

Flugauer today:

SEC Nos. 17-20: UNC, UVA, FSU and Clemson

B1G Nos. 19-20: ND and Miami

Also:

*** SEC doesn't want the B1G to take both FSU and Miami. Unsaid, however, is:
  • A) Sankey doesn't want UM
  • B) Miam's leadership doesn't want to join the SEC
  • C) Both are true
*** GA Tech could be No. 21 to the B1G.

*** Stanford and Duke also may be on the B1G's radar

*** Mentions the possibility of the B1G and SEC going to 24 at some point in time

No mention of NC State, VA Tech or Cal

- - - - -

Sticking with my picks ...

B1G adds UM/ND + KU/Mizzou + Stanford/Cal (take note of the undergrad and law school alma maters for the judge ruling on the NCAA settlement case in Oakland. Hint: nicknames are "Cardinal" and "Golden Bears")

SEC adds UNC/UVA + FSU/Clemson + NC State/VA Tech + Duke/GA Tech/West Virginia

2036 is going to be epic

2028 ... at the latest
I don't think it will be 2036, but I will believe the actual date when Miami has a new patch on their jersey -- this thread has had us in 4 different conferences and independent ranging across multiple years including 2025... all of which were stone cold locks...

Miami to the B1G -- get it done

Will be a hoot if FSU ends up in the SEC and is stuck with Norvell as coach for 2 more seasons ... they will be battling with Vandy. Miami and Ga Tech along with ND will then end up in the B10 and Miami will increasingly dominate Florida recruiting. Nice.

I've read 2030-2031 is when the music stops in this round of musical chairs.
How many new head coaches will we have by then?

Has Flugaur - or anyone else that you know of - said anything recently about the possibility of the Big10 taking ND/Miami, GT/Duke, Stanford/Cal?

Obviously with the SEC taking the four of FSU/UNC/UVA/Clemson.

Flugauer has come full circle on UNC/UVA/FSU/Clemson, conceding they're very likely SEC-bound after continually suggesting last fall and earlier that the B1G was very much in the hunt for all four schools and perhaps leading at times for at least two.

He predicts Nos. 19 and 20 for the B1G will be ND and the Canes.

Again, Flugauer made no mention of whether it would be Miami choosing the B1G over the SEC or it was the SEC passing on UM and the B1G landing the Canes by default. What he did say Tuesday was Sankey didn't want the B1G to have the synergy of an FSU-UM combo (although apparently the SEC boss would be fine with the B1G taking UM by itself)

My apologies, I should have been more clear with my wording….

I meant the Big 10 taking that whole group of six schools - not just the pairs individually. As in, if the Big 10 is considering getting to 24, has there been talk about those six being the ones they take from the ACC?

Hope that makes more sense. Appreciate the info.

DAN RAD could really give ole BOBBY a few pointers on playing CHESS. the pieces are just FALLING into place as planned

Good question ... there are so many scenarios out there that I'd imagine everything has been discussed somewhere or another, whether in mainstream media or pure internet speculation.

There has been chatter about 24-team conferences, but not necessarily from any reporters in the know (and realignment thinking at the SEC/B1G level is a pretty closely guarded secret).

But it's not too hard to identify candidates that could get serrous interest from one or both of the top two conferences if they decided to increase their collective membership from 34 to 48 schools.

From the ACC, I'd guess the list of candidates includes UNC, UVA, FSU, Clemson, UM, NCSU, VT, Duke, GT, Stanford, Cal and (if you count them) the Irish

From the Big XII, it'd be Kansas, WVU, Colorado, Arizona State and perhaps Utahh.

Reckon we'll find out soon enough
