Condoleezza Rice

So there's still people who think there is a difference between democrats and republicans at the leadership level???

Did not know that.

Donna has reached out to Nancy Pelosi.

There's an image it's gonna take all day and a lot of liquor to shake off...

Here are a few realties:

1. Poltics were not a primary factor in why Shalala was hired.

2. Although a definite liberal, she is very pragmatic.

3. She is not on the search committee.

4. Acadamia in general tends to be pretty liberal.

5. UM in general is not a bastian of liberalism.

6. The Chairman of the BOT is a Republican as is the head of the search committee.

7. Although Tad Foot was a Democrat, he enjoyed a close relationship with Bush family, especially the father.

Rice seems to be passionate about football and hopefully sports in general. From a casual glance, I think she would be a good choice.

While it wouldn't hurt to have a president with strong political ties, the primary focus should be on academics. I don't want to get into a situation like FSU with John Thrasher who was strongly opposed by professors and students. Thrasher has a law degree and no experience whatsoever in academics. It appears their BOT is heavily influenced by a myriad of outside factors.

She was provost at Stanford

Not happening --- the woman has been seriously considered as a candidate for President .... OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.... not for some University
- she makes more money working for a university than if she ran a university

She can be president of the SEC, but not UM? She did some good things at Stanford, balancing their budget from negative $20million to a $14 million surplus in 2 years. She would continue the fundraising efforts Shalala excelled at, keep the academics strong, and she loves football.

Unlikely due to Shalala being a democrat and well you know Rice's positions

Educate us, since you seem to know a lot about this? By this, I mean the process in hiring a new President especially how it relates to their poltical leanings.

Universities are heavily leftist institutions. Bringing in a known conservative is pretty much a non-starter in most places. It's just not worth it for the BOT. Why bother?
