Concerned with the lack of Experience at the Skill Positions

A lot has been mentioned how we may start a True Freshman, but has anybody looked how thin (experienced players) we are at our Skill Positions?

I was looking at the WR's production last year and there's only 5 players on the roster that had a catch last year. So I started to look at RB, TE, & WR positions

Richards(49 catches), Herndon(28 catches), Walton(27 catches), Berrios (12 catches), Harris (9 catches), and Cager had a few catches the year before. What caught my eye was that Herndon, and Walton are the starter's at their positions but behind them we don't have a player with any experience.

We can talk all about the QB with limited experience but both Walton & Herndon are going to need to sit from time to time and their backup's have 0 experience.

Can Harley, Thomas, Cager, Njoku and Mullins make a significant contribution at the WR position? If Berrios is used correctly his numbers should increase, and hopefully Mullins is in shape and has a better understanding of what's expected.

Can Gray, Burns & Homer provide enough depth to give Walton a breather?

And can Irvin, & Polendy do the same at the TE position?

I'd look at the weight of this relative to our top competition. Here are two examples:

VTech projected backups:

Backup RB had 16 carries for 60 yards last year
Backup WR had 3 catches for 29 yards last year
Backup WR was redshirted last year
Backup TE had 0 catches last year

FSU projected backups:

Backup RB was in HS last year
Backup WR had 4 catches for 33 yards last year
Backup WR had 0 catches last year
Backup TE had 10 catches for 133 yards last year

As Franchise likes to say,'there are no 10 year veterans in college football', this is the norm for the most part.

And returning starters can be an extremely overrated stat. Gimme young talent an get them coached up.

A guy like Malcolm Lewis was a great story and made some plays but who doesn't want to see a Jeff Thomas or Mike Harley getting those touches

Programs like Miami should be expected to replace talent on a regular basis

all of them played against West Virginia.

But FSU and VT are probably worse off like Lu pointed out.

shytzee is nervous about our skill positions? LOL. Get on some Xanax, son. We've got better skill than anyone in the ACC.

Is this his second retarded puss post today?

I'm not keeping tabs, but if he made this post, then I'm going to assume he's scary about everything. How can you look at our skill guys and be nervous unless you're predisposed to being a gaped ********?

OK, mis-read your post. But based on what Miami is bringing to the table this season, how many coaches would trade the athletic talent that Miami has right now at the skill positions? I'd say no more than three or four

Again, it's all about who will deliver them the rock consistently...

Probably scared our linebackers are Sophomores too.

Sigh

Very sad

Are you new to College Football?

Skill positions in today's game are the easiest to replace with plug & play young guys than any other positions in Football.

You don't need experience at RB or WR, talent & ability to adjust mean way more than how many years a player has been in it.

Does experience help? Sure, but it doesn't prevent an Offense in today's game from manufacturing productivity on the field.

Ahmmon, Berrios, Cager, Mullins & Harris is plenty of experience at WR, but that shouldn't keep Thomas, Harley & Deejay off the field in any capacity, they're just too **** fast & electric to keep on the bench just because they're TF's.

It's even easier for RB's to transition from HS to College ball than it is for even WR's.

Walton's the workhorse, but Homer will be a very solid RB2 & as long as Choc & Burns can get/stay healthy they'll get their fair share of carries too.

The only positions on Offense you really need to worry about lack of experience, is QB & OL.

Some of y'all said the same thing after we lost Dorset, duke and Walford to the NFL and then that next year we had Waters, Scott, coley each go for over 600 yards and multiple touchdowns each.... some of you all said the same thing before last season and then we had richards go over 900.... coley over 700 9 tds, njoku almost 700 yards 8 tds.... its college football new players produce evey year

I think you're wrong on FSU but VT is screwed...

Tell us about f$u, sitzee.

If Dallas can win a division in the NFL with a rookie QB and RB, than I think plugging in new guys who have a lot of talent should not be a problem. It all depends on their dedication to getting up to speed.

Who are their projected backups?

Heck, let's look at their projected starters' stats from last year:

RB Jacques Patrick 61 carries for 350 yards.
His backup is supposed to be true Freshman Cam Akers.

WR Nyqwan Murray 27 receptions for 441 yards.
WR Auden Tate 25 receptions for 409 yards.
Their backups are supposedly going to be anywhere from Da'Vante Phillips (4 receptions, 33 yards), Keith Gavin (can't find a recorded catch in 2016), former 5-star George Campbell (3 career catches, 0 last year after injury/surgery).

TE Ryan Izzo 19 receptions for 227 yards.
His backup is slated to be Mavin Saunders, who went for 10 receptions and 182* (yards correction from my original response) yards last year.

If you see something incorrect, please feel free to correct.
