Concern about the OL

Before all the haters come in and say "ThIs Is OnLy OnE ReP In IsOlAtIoN" if I'm going to speculate it's going to be on something I can see rather than "rumors" from "insiders."

On this rep that was a "highlight" from the scrimmage, you can clearly see Hillary Vs. Stephenson (Hillary holding his own) , Zion Nelson Vs. Jordan Miller (back at the line of scrimmage where everyone else should be), Kennedy getting his lunch handed to him by 3rd stringer and JAG in residence Tyreic Martin, and J. Harvey Vs. mallory (Mallory holding his own) with a DE you can't make out coming around the backside about to hit kosi. Even on this "highlight" throw to hightower we have 2 men in the backfield and a collapsed pocket vs what seems like 2nd and 3rd stringers. THATS concerning.

Hope you’re right. But prepare to be disappointed. We have very few guys who are competent OL. It’s not just that our coaching made them look bad, though it did. It’s also we have evaluated poorly, recruited poorly, and developed poorly on OL. Let’s hope the few guys we got stay healthy.

IMO Scaife is a legit OL, Donaldson should be if he gets in shape, and Gaynor should be serviceable. Campbell and Reed have potential but there will be learning curve challenges. Beyond those guys it looks grim. Brown has shown nothing in his time at UM. Kennedy, hope he can adjust to the competition level. Dykstra lol. Hillery and Herbert, not a fan of those evaluations.
And all of our other highly-recruited offensive players looked like **** the last few years too. Coincidence that we are loaded with 4 and 5 star players on offense and they all suck? To the point of being the 104th ranked offense out of 130 teams?

Same thing we saw when Folden and Doritos were coaching the D. The simple fans railed the players even though we were full of 4 and 5 star players. The same players Diaz (who never exhibited overwhelming success before coming here) took the very next season and fielded a very respectable defense.

Enos is a pro in his prime. He’ll do for our offense what Diaz did for our defense.

Not sure if you are changing the subject. I’m a fan of Enos. But whether our OL talent is what you describe, I’m skeptical. Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean there aren’t still little green tree people following you.

That’s football today. It’s rare when QBs have clean pockets to sit back and make a dozen reads.

It was a highlight because the offense did enough to make a play, which is what football is today. Manny brings heat, and if the QB can make a quick decision and be accurate under duress there are plays to be made.

Oklahoma has tons of highlights the last couple years where the QB made a play under duress.

Not sure how talking about the entire offense holistically is a change of subject from me imploring fans to do the same earlier and quit acting like OL operates in a vacuum.

I guess we have an unlimited amount of scholarships to pass around to portal kids. Portal this portal that. We recruit UM caliber players going forward that will solve this issue.

We’ve got a lot of highly-coveted guys on our OL. You dudes need a better understanding of football and quit spewing the John Madden cliches. OL doesn’t operate in a vacuum.

When the entire offensive system is busted, the OL will look like **** just like EVERY OTHER POSITION on offense did last year. With a vastly improved system in place, the OL will look much better.
"We've got a lot of highly-coveted guys on our OL" That's a good one!

You’d be amazed the difference when players go all in and believe as one unit , we will see a huge difference because the bar has been raised but is reachable.
Knowing they can reach the bar goes a long way in line play.

Cancel the season. New coaching staff does not have OL looking like all Americans first scrimmage of spring practice.

To those worried about the o-line, think about it, the 1st spring game in 2018 greg rousseau had 7tackles, 4 tackles for loss and 4 sacks, the 1st spring in 2019 he ends up with 4 sacks, so the o-line must already be improved. And dj scaife is the first left tackle we've had since ereck flowers that's looking to dominate. This o-line barring health will be straight, the strong side is pretty much straight, and if campbell stays health, their is probably only going to be a battle for that right guard spot left. There is solid competition for them o-line spots.

There’s competition at the special olympics too.

I think we have 2 camps - one where there’s panic, the other no issues regarding the OL. Or at least the scheme can help with how bad they’ve looked albeit it’s only Spring ball, and the very 1st scrimmage of the year. I believe it’s somewhere in the middle; I think we have some solid pieces to start off with in Scaife, Donaldson, and Gaynor. The right side will need to come together to make one, cohesive unit. Then we’re going to have to give them time as a group to gel and work together. We have the rest of Spring, Summer, then Fall camp to do so. Plus I’m sure Manny will eye the Portal to see if there’s anyone worth picking up at the end of Spring, so that if there is - we can bring them in with enough time to work their way into either another starters role, or serviceable backup. If memory serves me we have 2 spots remaining which I’m sure Manolo kept for this very reason. If we all know the OL is not the answer as a unit, you don’t think he doesn’t? Of course he does, he’s relying on Coach Barry to fix technique (or teach it for the 1st time) and the Portal to solidify the group. I have trust both men will fulfill their duties so the OL can shine come 8/24.

Development issues aside, when we're digging through other teams' castoffs and malcontents to help piece together an OL four months before the season starts ... Well, good luck with that.

We didn't get into this O-Line mess overnight. **** sure ain't fixing it right away, either.

Yeah, that was Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray — (likely) two straight No. 1 overall picks in the NFL draft.

Here's to hoping one of our guys can do some of the same things this fall.

Im not saying the OL operates in a vacuum. I pointed out that if you use the ‘holistic’ argument to contend tht our OL will be good, because stars or whatever, you should prepare to be disappointed. Our OL is extremely thin, very inexperienced, and scant on proven talent.
