Credit to OP for not tilting the position by position analysis to suit his agenda. I hate when folks make up facts like Richt Jr. was an NFL coach or that Diaz has no experience to suit their argument. As to the question, I think it comes down to a few points. (Only my uneducated opinion.)
1. Richt can recruit better players here than at UGA. 2. Schedule is more favorable here for a title run. (SOS is misleading when you are trying to go undefeated or limit yourself to a loss to make the playoff. It's really about comparing the toughest game or games and, for example, FSU is an easier draw than Alabama). 3. Diaz will need to be better DC than many of us fear. He needs to get back to his one star year in TX form for us to win it all. Not saying he stinks, but his avg. is not likely to get us to the dance.
Except FSU is very capable of being the number 1 team evey year, just like Bama, but unlike UGA we actually have to play them every year. So no, the road is not easier.
Secondly, if you make the playoffs, you are going to have to STILL get through an SEC team anyway. So the road is no easier at Miami than UGA. Maybe it was in 2009 when FSU wasnt built back up and there were no playoffs, but the landscape is very very different now. Not to mention the ACC has seen a dramatic upgrade in coaching talent of late, and already is a conference that is putting out more NFL players than any other conference (as of last year).
