Comparing LSU game with UF opener

The script has flipped. Last offseason, we were coming off a 10 win season, pre-season top 10, and favorites to beat LSU by almost every one.

Meanwhile, LSU was coming off a 8-4 or 7-5 year I believe, and had QB concerns, similar to us now (not necessarily concerns, but not sure who its going to be)

We know how the game went against LSU. Point I'm trying to get at is that there really is no reason why we cannot beat UF. While they are coming off a good year, and Mullen is a decent coach, the exact same thing was being said about us last year.

Our D Line is nasty and our LBs are experienced seniors. Shaq and Pinckney are going to eat this year. Garvin too. Losing Nesta for this one hurts but well see who steps up.

Our DBs are inexperienced but we have elite talent there. Expect big things from Bandy, Carter and Hall. And one of the two: Blades/Ivey will step up and take over the #2 CB spot.

Striker we are set with Finley and D. Smith.

Manny needs to start the QB who he thinks gives us the best chance to win. Whoever makes the least mistakes and doesn't turn the ball over, thats our QB, and thats who will win this game. I think all of them are D1 caliber, which is probably why no one is standing out.

Based off what we seen from N'Kosi last year in terms of erratic play, as well as reports of Martell not really standing out, I think Jarren might be the dark horse to win the job. I personally don't care who starts as I don't really have a "favorite" just my gut feeling. Trust Enos to make the right decision. But we'll see.

This game is really about not beating ourselves IMO. Don't turn the ball over and don't give up the big play, and we win in a dogfight.

Go Canes!

Also, with no preseason in college football special teams in an opening game will be very big. Reports in camp of baxa and hedley been positive, although no way to simulate the real game. I pray UF actually punts it in play to JT4. If jeff gets a few cracks he'll eventually break one. If we win the ST battle and prevent other turnovers we can not only win but win comfortably. Go Canes !

While there are some similarities, you are setting yourself up for disappointment trying to make some connection for this game to the LSU game thinking it's destiny that the same type of scenario plays out, but in our favor this time. It doesn't work like that. Last year's LSU game went the way it did because our offense was as bad as it gets, Rosier wasn't coached up and developed at all, the special teams was abysmal. It was practically a foreshadowing of how the entire season was going to go.

I hate to say it, but Florida is not likely to have a similar year to us, not in the manner we did. They may have a letdown year because they are dumb Florida fans and they set their expectations too high annually, but it isn't guaranteed we will be LSU and they will be us. They have plenty of question marks, that OL, has Franks gotten better, can they replace all of the talent lost on defense, how's the secondary depth gonna do, this game is certainly winnable for us and they are likely underestimating us, the fans that is.

The entire point to this post is I keep seeing people trying to connect the games and the circumstances leading up to the games to make themselves feel good like it is written the games will play out in similar manner. Don't expect that.

30,000 foot view:

2018 LSU - better than expected despite a lot of questions marks to start the season.
2018 Miami - overrated and thinner at several positions with some questionable talent coming off a year where their record was better than it should have been

Yup, looks like the script has flipped.

Look at where we were in January. We expected to lose this game. After seeing the new staff and effort put in, there's a reason for optimism.

Like the time 09 VT was 00 Washington or when 16ND was 00 Washington?

I still see the same outcome as last year’s opener with questions at QB and OL. After that we should be favorite in most of our games

Right, we're in that LSU game if it wasn't for the punter giving them the ball three times on our side of the field (with 25 yd aveare punts) when the game was being contested. Still we out gained them on offense - but gave up that big rushing TD getting caught in a mistake during a substitution.

Its highly unlikely that we'll be here on 8/25 talking about how we suck and need a new head coach.

We may not win, but I can guarantee they'll know they were in a fight for the full 60 minutes.

Now, imagine, we play a clean game special teams wise with better qb not named Rosier and decent play calling vs a lesser talented team than LSU like UF is. Sounds like a Canes W to me.

Jeff Thomas is running back the opening kick off for a touchdown.

Would LOVE to see JT4 house a punt for a TD. Him being back this year changes the complete dynamic of our offense as well.

Definitely understand what you're getting at here. Didn't mean to compare the two in the aspect of how the season will go or saying that we steamroll UF, but just wanted to show there I believe there is some similarities in the two. I think UF is overhyped and I think we are not respected because of how last season went. We may come out and lose by two TDs, no one knows.

The games last year against Duke, GT and UVA we should have won, but we had Richt/Rosier running the show which ruined the LSU game and our season as you mentioned. We have better QBs now and a real OC/QB coach. Those three games alone makes last year a 10 win season, even as abysmal as it was.

We showed up unprepared and umotivated for LSU, a Richt trademark.

Cant have that against UF

Coaching had to be awful to lose all those games. Even the terrible OL, QB and ST play wasnt enough, took **** near intentional malfeasonce by Richt to throw 'em

Coin toss,

Miami wins and defers.

Franks throws a pick six on the first series.

Turnover chain comes out. Orlando is stunned. Now we gotta just gotta mash the gas for 59 more minutes
