I too bought into the Gattass/Steele/Strong hype hook line and sinker. Mario f-ed up royally with that group. To be fair to Strong, he recruited LB like a pro he is, and he left when he wasn't made DC. But the other two were str8 bad hires.

Where you and I diverge is our observation of what came next. Mario fired them both and still landed a top 10 class, both in HS and portal, then brought in Guidry (home f-in run) and Dawson (jury still out), as well as JT and Nicholson (two more home runs). Then he goes 7-5, 8-4 if he wasn't such as stubborn mule and took a knee v GT, despite a pick-happy statue in TVD. Then he closes a Top 5 class. Finally, it's abundantly clear our NIL backers are willing to fund a QB1 and other key positions in the portal again right now.

So I don't believe is necessary at all. I think it's inevitable. Mario will have us in the playoffs in 2024.

He didn’t talk about rebuilding in year one, he said TVD is the best Qb in the country, bought in The “GREATEST” Miami coaching staff on paper and hit the Portal shopping for JAGS!

Sounds like Mario to me!!! The last two cycles we did the same thing! 11 year one 17 year two, we’re at 4 already this year.
10 kids are still on our roster from year one with a few of them on their way out after the bowl game. We still don’t have a FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK, we’re waiting on the 5th portal guy this cycle to save our A SS. It’s essentially the SAME SH IT in Miami. Mario popped the bed his first season as well. We ALL bought into the hype. They were 4-8 we were 5-7 year one!! HELLO??? Our SH IT is just as stank as CU.
We hoping our Coach can make it happen just like their fans.
The difference is they have a father grooming his sons to the league and Colorado is over after they leave. We have a Coach that if we don’t get to the Playoffs this season Pots and Pans will be Banging outside of Greentree and little Airplanes are going to takeoff with banners from Tamiami and Opa Locka Airports! If Mario doesn’t pull it off we’re F ukd!

• 2022 players retained: 8 (6 on offense, 2 on defense)
• Transfer Portal players obtained: 52
  • 4-5 years experience entering 2023 season: 25
  • 3 years experience entering 2023 season: 8

Colorado has the potential of having up to 33 transfer portal players, plus 6 of the holdover players leaving either after the 2023 season or 2024 season.

Against that, the 25 incoming scholarship limit kicks back in after the 2024 season.

That aside, what Deion did is nothing like what Mario or Norvell or any other coach has done.

I don’t think we can make the playoffs without a franchise qb, we really need Cam Ward. I’m in the minority, but I would like to see what JB looks like in NY.
In reality this should be a building block year where we allow the last three classes to develop. The only way to develop is to play. However in the era of the Portal you always have new Offseason hopes.
You know I initially commented with a comparison of the two programs portal usage. I think to expect CU to look recruiting hs kids, when the top players in their state are 3stars is unrealistic. Imo they aren’t in it for the long term anyway. I’m also interested to see what Clemson looks like in the next few seasons, Dabo has taken the old school development approach and playing the recruits. He actually pulled a nice little class this year.
This is uncharted territory. We are spinning the wheels without a franchise qb.

Again, there's nothing technically wrong with what Deion did. Norvell and Mario - even Manny should he have chosen - could have "cut" 77 players and gone all out in the transfer portal. I just don't like the idea that kids may have to be written off before even given a fair evaluation.

Furthermore, I think that based on how the roster is constructed and the looming 25 man annual limit for scholarships in 2025 that this was a roster constructed for a two year window, and that afterwards Colorado will be faced with some real challenges not far removed from what Butch Davis faced in 1997. From a roster build standpoint it's interesting to see what has been attempted and how he can possibly keep it going.

I don’t think it’s his intention to keep it going. Deion is just a super dad in my opinion.
My kid is an athlete and I would love to nurture my kid all the way to the league. Imagine if Shedeur went to college to play for a certain oc/qb coach. Said coach becomes a head coach somewhere else and the school hires Gattis or Inos as the replacement to develop Shedeur. There is no doubt his kid is Extremely talented.
As for the other kids feeling… Prime has a ranking system amongst his own blood children, you think he shouldn’t tell a kid that they aren’t good enough? Give me a break…. We know how many 4 and 5 stars the state produces…. Were those kids good enough?
I could imagine attempting to watch the film of that one win team before meeting them.
My belief is they will be Better this season in the Big 12. The Sanders family will go to the NFL. CU has/will make a ton of money and will thank Deion.
