Not sure if I want them to win out and play UF in the Fiesta Bowl (current projection) or lose and get left out of New Years 6.

Nightmare scenario for the ACC, ESPN, and cfb --

Pitt wins the coastal as they are likely to do.

They then upset Clemson in the ACCCG, which is not as far fetched as it sounds.

The ACC champion would have 4 losses . Not a good look at all.

IF they go undefeated, they should make the playoff, and I think they will at the end of the day. CFP "committee" is interested in preserving the status quo. Best way to do that is to give UCF their shot, match them up with Alabama in the first round, and let the defacto 2017 "national championship" game play out for all the world to see. When Bama dismantles UCF, they will be discredited and the CFP can go back to their usual for at least 5-10 years.

Best way to blow up the whole system is to keep UCF out and risk them beating UGA or someone like that in a NY6 bowl for the second straight year.

So what? Clemson is still getting into the playoffs with a loss in the ACC title game.

Who cares if they win their bowl game? The powers are much more interested in letting that happen than telling Michigan or Ohio State that UCF is taking their playoff spot.

Not that big a deal and won't change anything. Clemson is basically a lock for the playoff with one loss, as long as Lawrence doesn't get hurt and they don't get completely obliterated.

If the powers that be want an 8 team playoff then you are right. If they don't, then they don't want the clamoring for expanded playoffs that will come if last year's scenario plays out all over again, this time with a team that hasn't lost in nearly 30 games getting left out.

You're right, though, a 1-loss Big10 champion will get in ahead of UCF, as will undefeated ND. But if the 4th best P5 has two losses, UCF will and should get in.

If Notre Dame gets in, I don't see a scenario in which the committee tells three P5 conferences that they are being left out in favor of the AAC.

I hear ya. Can't see them leaving out an undefeated conference champion in favor of a team with two losses, but they've done all kinds of crazy stuff over the years, so who knows. I get where you're coming from. It will be interesting to see how the season unfolds and then how the committee responds and decides.

I hope they do make the playoff. It will ensure Alabama wins another title by giving them an essential bye week during the semi-finals.

I like the scenario. Sure would shut up the "defacto National Champion" narrative. But I just don't see it happening. Too much $$$ involved (viewership). If undefeated, they would deserve a NY6 bowl for sure. Boise State was in one a few years ago and did very well.

0% chance.

I'll take that bet. Hard to put odds on 0% chance, but I'll do you a favor and let you give me just 400-1. I'll bet you a dollar that IF Clemson loses the ACCCG, they still get in the playoff. You in? No caveats that it has to be a close loss or anything, if they get blown out, you'll have me, but I'm betting if Clemson loses to Pitt or whoever, it will at least be close. Unlikely we even get to find out since it's low odds they even lose that game, but your credit is good with me, if the bet actually comes off, and I win, a check or Venmo or whatever will be just fine for you to send me my $400.

UCF was in a NY6 Bowl just last year, pretty sure, and knocked off Auburn who was thisclose to getting in to the playoff themselves. Personally, I think the "powers that be" would much rather give UCF their "shot" at Bama in the Semi than have to deal with the momentum building against the current system, but I've certainly been wrong before.

Just from a pure sports, right/wrong perspective, if they go undefeated, I'd like to see them get in, even though I know they almost certainly get pounded to dust by Bama.
