College football week 8 thoughts...

Spent much of the day/night in beautiful Miami watching ball games at various places -- Duffys, Brightside -- and some thoughts on what happened in week 8 in college football..

- Last game I saw was FSU losing to Sttanford at the Farm. Im actually surprised I didnt wake up to the news that Mike Norvell had been fired on the tarmac and told to book a Spirit flight back to Tallahassee. That's nine straight ACC losses in a row for the Noles. It's hard to fathom this is a team that beat Bama on Labor Day weekend

Some will state that Norvell and his buyout make him too expensive to fire. But you could counter by saying the cost of keeping him is even greater.

- THE Ohio State is a machine. Yeah, they played a Wisky team that has quite on Luke Finished. But the way the just go out and systematically take care of business week in, week out is impressive. From what I saw, Ryan Day is now opening up the offensive for Julian Sayin.

- It's interesting to see Texas A@M play in shootouts. For years, their identity has been 'the Wrecking Crew' defense and they would also lose as their offense stalled. Now they are going out on the road and putting up 45 points(while giving up 42). Marcel Reed, once again, was really good in leading the Aggies offense, and Ruben Owens is starting to round into form as the lead runner.

- Another team that week in and week out just goes about their business is Indiana. No let down at home vs Mich St. Fernando Mendoza, (24-28, 332 yards and 4 touchdowns) is firmly in the thick of the Heisman race. The Hoosiers should be significant favorites in their next five games to close out the season (especially with Penn St falling apart). I expect them to go 12-0

- Nebraska absolutely laid an egg vs Minnesota. How do Penn St fans feel about Matt Rhule after this?

- Bama-Tenn was a good game that really turned on one play. Last play for the 1st half with Tenn at the edge of the Bama goal line, down 16-7, Joey Aguilar throws a ball way inside and it gets pick sixed by Zabien Brown. So instead of being down 16-14 and getting the ball to start the 3rd, its 23-7. Ty Simpson has really grown in this Grubbs offense. Also, it's clear to me that it's Germie Bernard and not Ryan Williams who is their best player outside.

- I still think Texas Tech is the class of the Big12 but credit to Kenny D for having his Sun Devils ready to protect their house in Tempe.

- Is there a coach who gets more out of his talent than Clark Lea at Vandy. And is there a guy who has gotten the least of of his than Brian Kelly at LSU? Take away Zabian Thomas' great individual effort on his 62 yard TD, Vandy really controlled this game. They out-gained, out-first downed LSU, and held the ball for 36 minutes. Diego Pavia may not go down as the greatest player in Vandy history, but it's most impactful

- Notre Dame stayed in the playoff hunt by downing USC in South Bend in an entertaining affair. But I have a question, this storied rivalry isn't going to end, right? Would be a doggone shame if it did.

- Duke had early chances to separate from Gatech, but redzone turnovers killed them. Haynes King has shown that he's the type of player that gets stronger as games go on and can impose his will on games. Once again he goes 200/100(pass, run) for the day. Will anyone trip them up in the ACC?

- Finally, back to my #Canes, it's pretty simple, with the way Gatech is rolling, and with UVA being undefeated in league play(NCSt loss is not counted in ACC play this season), Miami is now basically in a win-or-lose situation. I think they have to win out to get into the playoffs. Can Cristobal rally the troops and go 6-0 the rest of the way?
- A&M winning shootout in Arkanasas not a badge of honor. They are playing with fire. I think they lose to Missouri - if LSU finds their offense (unlikely) maybe in death valley but they have a good end of conference run- teams like south carolina sucking this year

- Indiana- didn't cover. google it curt- you f'd me lol

- Tenn- that play in the endzone was so obviously not good a mile away. Tenn did a Miami

- USC ND- lane kiffin is a *****, making excuses. Smarter people should prevail

- Duke- have you met Manny Diaz

- Many Penn State HC hot board candidates **** the bed a bit.- see Rhule, Diaz, others

Dawson just ran it up the middle again..
I was watching the game with a buddy who doesn’t watch much football. He was like ****, aren’t they running it up the middle a lot? It was the 4th QT and we were starting our last drive I think, and I was like “watch they’re going to do it again on 2nd down” and it happened lmao.

I’m not sure why people think we need to win out to make it. If we finished 10-2 and beat Notre Dame and USF it’s hard to see us not getting in. It’s not like the teams around us are all going to win out. Everyone has ND at 10-2 penciled in with absolutely zero quality wins- USC probably ends up 7-5 or 8-4. Also by the end of the year Louisville might end up being a good loss and the spin will be we had a chance to win the last minute in spite of the turnovers.
I said in a different thread, I'm convinced a lot people posting on this board don't really watch any other games.

I saw IU got a late FG up 25 and I started counting my parlay. Then I saw MSU got a FG likely as a FU. Then I was sad.

Michigan state kicked it with 15 seconds left when they were already not getting shut out that's a head coach way to aware of the pointspread and his job security optics

Pitt with Mason Heintschel(sp?) is now a dangerous wild card moving forward for anyone they play

That is almost always the case until teams have film on them. By the time we play PItt, I would hope our DC could find some things that rattle him.

I do agree they look better with him at QB.

As painful as it is I do not see how we win 6 in a row. SMU, VTECH, and Pitt on the road no chance we get through that unscathed.

Just the last 20 plus years has left me with no we won’t run the table .. I’m not having my expectations thru the roof only to be disappointed again . … Mario and Dawson don’t strike me as capable . Hope I’m wrong

Couldn’t start 6-0 staying in the state of Florida for all 6. How in the **** is he going to finish 6-0 with the last 2 games being below 80 degrees

Week 9 2024- 9 teams with 0 losses , 19 losses for ranked teams
Week 11 2024 - 5 teams with 0 losses

Week 8 2025 - 9 teams with 0 losses
Week 9 2025- 5 teams with 0 losses, 27 losses for ranked teams

Parity is here. Expect more losses. Coaching and evals will matter more than ever.

Last year only one 3 loss team made the cfp. Clemson with the win over SMU in the acccg. This year, I believe we see 1 B1G and 1 SEC unless 2 acc or b12 teams finish with 1 loss or the champs are 2 losses and runner up has 1.

USF at 6-1 is ranked at 18. Boise was 5-1 and ranked 17 last year during week 9. Both were the only g5. Remember, the top ranked g5 gets in.

B1G has 8 teams with 2 losses. Can one run the table to get that 4th spot? Osu&iu with 0. Oregon with 1.

Sec has Texas A&M with 0. 6 teams with 1 loss. 3 teams with 2. They are much more likely to have 4 or 5 teams with 2 or less losses.

Acc- sucks! GT 0 losses, 3 1 loss teams, 4 2 loss teams.

B12 is similar. BYU 0 losses, 3 1 loss teams, 4 2 loss teams.

ND 2 losses .

tomorrow I’ll try to get the same for 24,23,22
