We already knew about Illinois ...

Now, add Maryland, Southern Cal, and South Carolina ...

UCF and Rutgers might also be added to the list, with O'Leary looking to retire and Kurt Flood being on shaky ground.

That's 5 major openings ... 3 B1G jobs, a PAC-12 job, and an AAC job.

I could also see UVA come open ...

As is normal, there will be a chain reaction from folks filling these jobs.

And with guys like Butch, Schiano, and Chud available ... It will be very interesting to see if any of those guys get pursued for any of the openings.

To paraphrase a Mod/poster on this site ... "the market will tell us their value".

Georgia is a possibility also, along with Arkansas, and Purdue. If you are gonna list Illinois and Rutgers you got to put Purdue in the mix.

USC and S. Car are the two big dogs and will possibly set off a chain reaction of events. Before last weekend I would have put Texas on that list, but Charlie Strong possibly bought himself another year with the win over Oklahoma. Keep your eye on UGA as well, I would not be surprised if Mark Richt "steps down" at the end of this season. Lastly, don't be surprised if Tennessee shows Butch Jones the door after this season.

Those Canes guys won't be talked about much by other teams. This may actually help us. With all these other jobs coming open the Canes may not have many options making Butch look like their only way to save face.

The completion is going to require our adminstration to move with clear direction and purpose. So we are screwed.

I definitely think Purdue will be open. Forgot to add them.

Another B1G job.

Of all the opening and potential opening, only USC and Miami offer real shot at an NC. Maybe UGA as 3rd shot if open. That said, for some reason, top names have been turning us down for years. Given the BOT's nature to spend $$ on anything BUT football, Butch could end up their only option -- that is how he got the job the first time. There are now 3 mid-season openings. I doubt USC will go for Butch. SC might once Smart turns them down. BOT really missed the boat not firing Al last year when there was almost no competition. This year dozens of schools will be in the chase.

Admin would be smart to fire AG now like other schos are doing, but you know the deal. The coaching vacancies does not concern us unfortunately. Golden will be here next year. I don't know how all you ppl think he is going to get fired?!? Have seen the last two coaching hire debacles? This won't turn out well for us. AGs buyout is enormous and he's under contract for another 5 years. We would owe him 15,000^. We also don't know what contracts the assistants have. There is no way UM will buy him out and then open the purse to get a real HC. The track record here tells you all you need know. 2020 is when we can expect a change unless someone hires AG.

Unfortunately this. The faster it becomes a reality that Gluten is gone, the faster the wolves and killers can come out of tha woodworks and get moving forward.

I brought this up a couple weeks ago. If they wait until the end of the season I think blake james and vincente fox are going to find themselves in a tough position with regard to the talent pool of available coaches.

That said, if they lag long enough it will likely force their hand in giving Butch a more realistic look.

Can you explain the $15MM buyout instead of just throwing it out there as fact.

The buyout is nowhere near 15 million

Nope.

If the buyout is 50/50, it's $7.5M. After tax, Golden would net $4.5M will some change. But, he'll have been FIRED.

UM tried to pull an 80/20 buyout on Butch, which is why he left. If Miami fired or Butch left, Butch was on the hook for 80% of the contract, while UM was only on the hook for 20%.

Much better for UM to negotiate. Much better for Golden to negotiate. Rather than a lump sum buyout, maybe they could agree on an installment buyout - so the payouts are spread over a few years rather than taking a larger one-year hit.

Firing Al is cheap. Put the money argument to bed. ND's last $2mm payment to Charlie Weiss is this year ('15).That fat ******* ended up costing them $19mm including the $6mm buyout when he was fired in 2009.
