Collectives are Cracking

It's because he is just a normal dude like all of us. Sure he is super rich. But he is so bleeping cool and down to earth. I got a pic with him and my family at the basketball game yesterday. (Why would a billionaire show up to a game against a lightweight opponent with nobody in the stands)? Because this guy loves The U. I approached him after the game and asked for a family pic. He said "absolutly". He engaged me in casual conversation, asked about where I was from and talked to my kids. Super nice guy. Dude loves UM and is a billionaire, However contrary to perception he DOES NOT act like a ***** at all. He just argues with these other idiots because he is a fan just like us and he is good at proving points obviously. Love Mr. Ruiz and he is great for The U.
Yeah, that’s great! I’m sure he is a cool guy. But most of these guys troll him into an argument. I wouldn’t waste a minute of my day having any kind of discussion with most of them and I’m not super rich. But if he likes it go for it I guess. I don’t understand Elon Musk just talking with randoms either so it might just be me. Anyway, glad you and your family got to talk with him. Would be a cool experience

How is ROI calculated here? Not just in an individual, but as a team. It can’t be just on payout/revenue if you are a playoff/NY6 bowl. Has to also include increased enrollment, merchandise sales, etc.

Things will correct themselves as this NIL era evolves. But I will say, this isn’t only about businesses getting an ROI on their NIL investment. There will always be some boosters who do this for pride/bragging rights. Some of those TAM big heads don’t give a **** about recouping their 10 mill investment or whatever they gave. They care about winning a Natty to shove it in the faces of their UT buddy.
UM calculated (right or wrong) that being a top 10 team generated $100MM in intrinsic brand/marketing value for school per year.

While that's true, no business throws money away for a loss. Businesses are about profits and let's be frank, he said 10 mil a year at some point. He's not getting that on ROI. Now maybe with the launch of a sports agency, that can change as he's likely to pick up a lot if not most of these athletes. Until that comes to fruition down the line with draft picks, etc we all know what the state of NIL is today. While nothing illegal as best we know, I'm not going to say it's all being done in the spirit of what NIL was intended.
Isn't he? Like 80% of College fans know what LifeWallet is now because it's messing with their recruiting classes.

What would it cost to run ads in every Bum****, USA town across the nation? I'd imagine more than $10m.

Yeah, suddenly we have a bunch of fake “ROI experts” on CIS. Boosters been payin’ for years with no ROI…OR valid business deduction. I’m not saying that the first two years of NIL will carry on forever, it’s very new and their is a lot of uncertainty about the “best way” to do things. But at the same time, “positive ROI’ isn’t the sole determinant either.

  • The Supreme Court’s decision against the NCAA paves the way for college athletes to be paid, though the court ruled only on education-related benefits and not broader compensation issues.
i Don’t know how they define education-related benefits but it would appear that 99 pCt of these nil deals are not education related.

The court didn’t have to define them. The case itself presented facts and circumstances. Some schools paid a cash award for academic achievement (like when your parents gave you money for a good report card).

THAT is what the Supreme Court case was about. NOT NIL.

Ruiz has stated from beginning his NIL/LW program is about building that product long-term. He's trying to start with younger generation.

IF he pulls it off and it becomes the defacto standard (Google and Microsoft failed decades before), it would be worth billions in US, trillions globally.

Not sure when that calculation was made, but it seems even more of head scratcher when looking at the complete lack of investment into the football program for many years considering that level of ROI.

Rudy Fernandez made the claim on one of his first podcast interviews (right before/after Mario hired?) several months ths back.

Same podcast talk where he emphatically denied, and quickly changed the subject (smartly) that no UHealth $$$$$ intermingle with University's athletic department. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

From the outside looking in, it seems academics were in control of a business they had no clue how to operate and were only interested in academic standing versus ROI. Ruiz, Mas, Soffers, and whatever other business minded people currently involved are now looking at the football operation from a business standpoint not just an academic one.

The IPF is testament to that. One thing I think many fail to realize is Ruiz is directly tying some of his business interests to the program whereas others are “donating” monies acquired from their other business interests. Either way, the program is benefiting tremendously.

Didn't Ruiz mention anyway that he profited on his returns? Even if he didn't, who cares what another man wants to spend his money on. He's dealing with play money here. What he's doing he can do with a fraction of his interest gains. Just let me guy be (not you specifically, in general).

Yes, and that is kinda my point.

It will always be hard to prove "true ROI". You may not be able to get direct money returns that prove things out on an ROI calculation basis.

John Ruiz has benefited from the publicity and people going to his company's website. Has it resulted in massive sales and a profitable company? Not yet, but he is definitely someone who is aligning numerous business interests in a way that benefits AT LEAST on an indirect basis from what he is doing.

I don't like to tell any fan of collegiate sports how money "should" or "should not" be spent. I just like to see legal, above-board transactions that will not imperil a kid's eligibility or put him in potential income tax trouble. I want kids to benefit, but I don't want silent threats looming over their heads for years, like "you might have your Heisman taken away".

Do it right, do it lawfully, do it in a way where everyone benefits (player gets income, payor gets business deduction), and all is good with me.

Ruiz should enter into a partnership with Life Alert, that would pair perfectly with LW.

Are the collectives intentionally whiffing so they can convince the fans to fork over more money?
