Coley coming back?

It will be interesting to see if Richt changes the run-heavy offense he's had, now that he'll be calling the plays. UGA didn't really have a dominant WR, except for AJ Green, but even he didn't have huge production while he was there.

Georgia has had excellent run and pass numbers, always within the ideal ratio for a warm weather balanced offense. It only seems run heavy because the Canes have been ridiculously pass dependent for years.

More than anything, the Canes need to return to a physical north/south approach so the opponent can be brutalized on the ground when the vulnerability is there. By far the most sickening bowl game was San Diego State's thrashing of Cincinnati. Rocky Long in that game did exactly what I chastised Miami for failing to do, after attending the Cincinnati roader in person on Thursday night. San Diego State unapologetically used the classic I formation and ran smack at Cincinnati all day. Nothing serious, a 42-0 lead at one point. Cincinnati had a couple of big defensive linemen but otherwise the front seven was thin upfield types. The entire defense doesn't want any part of an opponent who relentlessly pounds them.

James Coley was such a moron in that Thursday night game he sat back and relied on pass plays mixed with flatfooted handoffs from the shotgun. So many stupid teams these days think those shotgun handoffs are an even substitute for traditional rushing plays. Not even close. Miami and USC have fallen prey to the stupidity. Those plays are hit and miss. The blocking is delayed and edge rushers too often are free to attack. There's far too much reliance on timing and creating seams for burst running plays as opposed to wearing down a defense for a dependable and wonderfully punishing blend of 4 to 8 yard gains. That San Diego State/Cincinnati game was such a perfect blueprint I would have wanted Rocky Long for head coach or offensive coordinator if he were 20 years younger.

AGREED.

There will be two or three idiots who will tell you that you don't need traditional power running formations to be a power running team. but then they cant name any teams outside of auburn osu, and Miss St who successfully run it without those coaches and their playcalling.

I completely agree
