Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to win the coastal, we need:

-Win vs. FSU saturday, then win out
-Duke to drop one ACC game
-Georgia Tech to lose to Clemson this saturday

If only one of these three things doesn't happen, we do not win the coastal. Which is most likely not to happen? In my opinion, I don't feel like us beating FSU is the least likely, which is kind of concerning.

Also, if Georgia Tech beats Clemson on saturday, which is a noon game, the only thing we're playing FSU for is to spoil their cake. Which is fine, but not quite as nut-pumping as playing for that and a shot at the championship.

In conclusion, GTvClemson is kind of an exciting mini-game for Miami-FSU. Let's go Clemson.

I don't think we'd need ga tech to lose if Duke loses one.

Wouldn't that put us at a 3 way tie at 6-2?

We have the best division record which would win us the tiebreaker I think.

Need to win out and have duke to lose to either VT or UNC. If they lose to wake (an Atlantic team), I'd have the check the next tie breaker on the list

We only need Duke to lose one. The Coastal record only comes into play with a three-way tie. Once the Coastal record removes GT from the conversation it reverts back to head-to-head and doesn't consider Atlantic vs Coastal losses.

Who cares? This is a win/win weekend. If we lose to feather people, Al is back on burning hot seat and maybe history. If we win, well if we win we beat frigging criminoles and ruin yet another crybaby's season. Sure we will be stuck with Al for another year, but it is worth it. Besides, we HAVE to get Donna out before we pick the next coach.

Thoughts on coastal? Its the best tournament in all the land! Only the strong survive..

This. We don't need Gerogia Tech to lose again if we win out. We need Duke to lose one.

A collective blood bath of mediocrity. What other division has so much inept parity that crowning the champ requires sophisticated analytics to resolve the multi-tiered tie breakers?

It doesn't get any better than this!

So Duke losing to Wake means the same for Miami as Duke losing to UNC or VT since GT would have been knocked out by Tiebreaker #2 (Division Record) so it go back to Tie Breaker #1 (head to head)?

Correct. I believe if Duke loses to UNC or VT it would have us as the best Coastal record in the three way tie and just end it there. But if Duke lost to Wake then GT would be eliminated from the three-way and we would then win the head-to-head vs Duke. Either way the result is the same with one Duke loss, regardless of who it is to.

I merely popped into this thread to explain the scenario, but I have no hopes of Duke losing any of their remaining games. Wake, UNC, and VT are terrible and Duke isn't.

While us winning out and Duke with one more loss puts us in the driver's seat, an additional Duke loss would put GT in the driver's seat, unless GT loses another game. So it would be good to have GT lose at least once to cover for the scenario of us winning out and Duke losing twice.

I'd say a GT loss is all but assured this weekend, but then again VT beat OSU, GT beat us, etc.

This is not hard to understand. We HAVE to win out and Duke has to lose one. If that happens (regardless of what GT does), we win the coastal - even in the event of a 3 way tie.

It gets a lot more complicated if Duke loses more than 1, which they won't/.
