Coaching Staff Update: 1/9

this.

he did well with what he had this year. that's all you can ask if any position coach. like our OL, the WR's were hampered by Enos as much as anything. even so, Stubblefield managed improvement from his position, with pretty much every player except JT4, who is such a condom head, Vince Lombardi couldn't have squeezed more out of him than Stubblefield.

maybe Lashlee has someone else he'd like to bring in, and maybe diaz agrees and decides to make a change.

who knows. that happens all the time. sometimes even good coaches don't get retained. that's the nature of the business.

but let's not pretend that stubblefield didn't do a good job last season, because he did.

My supposition is you're a Manny Diaz loyalist and apologist! Go bloody figure.

He actually caught the ball this year. Your argument is absurd. How do you grade a WR coach then?
I was under the same impression that drops had decreased this year. Statistically they are almost the same.

On top of catching, a good WR acts as a decoy, blocks, provides a target for a quarterback under pressure, and adds yardage after the catch. Some of those are subjective, but YAC is pretty easy to measure. Half the time our receivers were catching as they fell.

Since the offseason began, the coaching staff situation has been pretty volatile with multiple moves expected after a poor year. Now that Rhett Lashlee is in place at OC, there seems to be a little more clarity on the offensive side of the ball. For one, I’m hearing from a strong program source that Butch Barry is out as OL coach. The other name that had been brought up a ton as one that had been on the chopping block was WR coach Taylor Stubblefield, but I’m told he is being retained.

As I said last week, the rest of the staff on both offense and defense are safe. I would expect an announcement on Barry in the next few days and some OL coaching names to emerge soon after.

Is it accurate to infer that Manny is actually making choices for Lashlee rather than Lashlee picking all his own guys???

Our WRs actually showed some glimpses of potential this year as opposed to with Dugans in 2018 when all of them with the exception of JT4 sucked. Look at how Cager got so much better once he left.

The fact that not a single coach on the defensive side looks like they're going to be replaced is far more concerning.

i dont quite get the hate for patke coaching wise. recruiting is a diff story, but that goes for him, banda, and rumph. no one was fixing the kicking game this year unless you were a shrink
The “hate” for Patkecake stems from the fact he’s occupying a spot on the staff that should be filled by a monsterful recruiter, and he’s proven to be a nonexistent recruiter.

You don’t have to be Bill Belichick to coach 6 or 7 guys. Any remotely competent coach at this level can execute the assignments given to him by the coordinator.

Keeping Stumblebum instead of replacing him with a young ferocious recruiter would be a catastrophic error. But par for the Manure course.

I don't disagree, 'chise. I don't think he's a good fit as a recruiter. the staff as a whole needs an upgrade in that area, and i'm looking at him and Rumph specifically.

But, for the most part, he did do a good job with the guys in his room.

(doesn't mean he will or should be on the staff for spring ball)

Cager was the same guy he was here. Our fans hated him for some stupid reason.

Our receivers are who they are. Guys should get better every year naturally as they mature and get more comfortable, and we had a couple guys do just that while others plateaued.

You Stubblefield nuthuggers have absolutely no justification for the nonsense you're spewing about improvement.

Osborn was better at Buffalo by a significant amount.
Harley was fine, but his numbers are just a result of an increased volume of balls his way. He didn't break out at all. Marketshare was still sub 20%. I'd expect a breakout NOW under the new Lashlee system, but thats not on Stubblefield. Harley is just going to get a ton more balls in this offense.
Wiggins was and performed like a WR4. He'll have a chance to "show potential" this year, but again, that will be because of opportunity and the offense.
Jeff Thomas took a significant step backward.
Mark Pope did next to nothing. Again, he'll see an increased number of passes come his way in 2020. He was a sub 10% share player in 2020.

Stubblefield did nada to justify his job. Keeping him is laughable.

Our receivers were awful this past year and I do not understand how low some people's standards have to be in order to ignore that. His "recruiting haul" is not going to significantly improve that situation, either. His recruiting haul will have minimal to negligible impact at the WR position next year.

In that **** offense with that OL and the cluster**** of inconsistency at the QB position, what in the world would anyone expect of our WR's? Were they supposed to block the DL, get handed the ball, and then throw it to themselves whole somehow getting open?

I am the first person to say our WR talent is average. We have no physical presence there, but that isn't this coaches mistake as it was what was handed to him.

They still had drops, but the more you can trust your QB to deliver the ball, the more consistent of a catcher of said balls you'll be.

Recruiting, I can live with the haul. Considering the offense we had to sell at the time of the early recruiting signing day, are you saying you expected more? Got news for you, he did **** well considering the product he was selling was dog****.

Still lacking some physical receivers, he's got his work cut out for him this upcoming year. I don't think he did anything to warrant being fired and if he's not, that's because Lashlee feels pretty much how I said above.

Everyone ******* about how our program is a dumpster fire yet they expect position coaches to recruit like animals

We da U baby! 5 rings, recruiting hotbed, and we got that paper. NFL U. TE U. RB U. LB U.

All ancient history and we've been nothing than a run of the mill program for years. ****, they openly admit they wouldn't send their own kids here while professing to be die-hard.

This board is filled with morons who talk out of both sides of the mouth.
