Obviously we all know Miami doesn’t release its salary pool for its coaches. If I were to guess, we’d be in between FSU and North Carolina at the moment. These numbers are based off 2020 so they aren’t 100% accurate as of today but this gives insight to who’s spending what.

When Mario took over at Oregon he’s bumped the pool up considerably each year. I believe now he’s a shade over 6mil for his entire staff as they all got huge bumps this off season.

“The assistant pool of $5.63 million is an increased over the 2018 season where Oregon paid the assistants a combined $5.35 million. When Oregon hired Mario Cristobal, they significantly spent more on assistant coaches compared to previous seasons when the Ducks spent $3.9 million in 2017 and $3.59 million in 2016 on their assistants.”

If we’re going to pull him from Oregon, I think the ball park range Miami needs to offer to entice him is in the $6.5mil (no lower than $6.3). That’d put Mario/Miami in the top half of the SEC(between Florida and Tennessee, #2 in the ACC, and #2 in Big10 (Michigan is second in big 10 around $6.3mil).

If it is Lane Kiffin, this would be a bump from his current $5.3mil (2021) pool. I’d expect if he stays at Ole Miss he’d get another bump after this season around the $6mil mark.

We're currently right at FSUs. But they gave Manny the go-ahead to hire a defensive coordinator that would have put us around a $6M staff - he just chose not to. If we were willing to boost that budget to $6.5-7 - we're gonna be top 10 in the country.

But at the same time... Manny is a budget hire giving us more money for assistants to stay at the budget Richt got approved before he came. They're gonna have to come up with another $1-1.5 a year for assistants/analysts/staff and pay an additional $3-4M for the HC.

Good stuff. One note, didn't Harbaugh get a major haircut in the offseason?
Yes. His contract went from 10 million guaranteed to 5 million guaranteed and is extremely incentive based now. He is in the bottom 1/3 in terms of salary for B1G Head Coaches. I think he’s 11/14, off the top of my head

For sure, I think if either one takes the job we’ll have a few big name coaches on either side of the ball. Mario def will be spending a big budget on recruiting. When he was recruiting my nephew he had to back their call up when he offered because he was taking a last second flight to Houston for recruiting. He’s Non stop.

There is going to be more money thrown around than at Frenk's Saturday night *** dungeon party found under the Richter library.

And that is the same way Kirby Smart is. I've seen his defenses get gashed at Alabama and at Georgia.. they're so dominant because they're absolutely ******* loaded with talent. They're not doing anything special. That's the kind of team Mario would have in his 5th year here if not sooner.

They are loaded with talent and they are well coached. It’s not either or. GA has an amazing collection of defensive coaching talent, even at the advisor / analyst level.

Modern defenses do get gashed all over. It’s an offensive arms race world, but the Bama / GA teams punish mid tier offenses and get one or two key stops in big games that lead to titles.

Assistant coaches like working with HCs like that. That they’ll be having elite talent to coach across the board.

A name that hasn’t been talked about but is interesting is Glenn Schumann. Current ILBs/co dc coach at Georgia was with Mario a couple years at Bama. Supposed to be one of the best up and coming coaches. Saban wasn’t happy when Kirby took him to Georgia. You never know how someone is calling plays until they do it but I wonder if those tires would be kicked. He’d only leave for a full DC role.

I get the feeling that if we're successful in the pursuit of Mario that it will be more than a 5 year deal. More like 7 and up year contract. Do you think that's the case? Because he's gonna want assurance if he leaves what he's built at Oregon.

Great stuff, but keep in mind the numbers are likely dated and can anticipate most programs - especially those going through a coaching change - will have a spike this offseason.
