Coaching Rant

Now you guys know why I was so critical of Rumph. You know who you are, as many of you defended him! But I knew all along we were going to pay for his misses. Did not think it would be UNC though that broke the camels back, which is even more troublesome!

WE just can't swipe it under the rug and move on from the fact that we whiffed on the most impressive CB class in the modern era. There was always going to be consequences for that. We're paying for it now. And we're going to keep paying for year in and year out until we make changes.

Add DT to that list. You can't go from a string of McIntosh, Norton and Willis to Ford, Bethel, etc and not feel it-- and we are badly.

Miami doesn't have the financial assets to hire quality assistants. Akin to today's major programs. So, I suggest Diaz takes a 500,000 grand cut in salary next winter and hire a DC!
That may have been true before but I think that has changed especially when you consider the revenue the ACC network will generate. Right now Miami ranks 29th in money spent on assistant coaches. I think if Manny approached the administration about wanting to seriously upgrade his staff that they would support it.

In case anyone is curious the 10 teams who currently spend the most on assistant coaches are in no particular order(I will edit with the proper order) are.......

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. LSU
4. Texas A&M
5. Oklahoma
6. Texas
7. Ohio State
8. Clemson
9. Florida State
10. Notre Dame

Not the least bit surprising for the most part.

Fspoo not exactly getting their moneys worth but other than that good list

This Is ******* Embarrassing!! All these Rants are Absurd!!! Yes, we Lost 2 games by a total of 7 points, and If Bubba hits his FG's we would've won both. Go back to 2016 and the 3 games by a total by a total of 11 points (FSU 1pt, N.C. 7pts and N.D. 3 pts) we got blown out by VT. After that The U went on a 15 game winning streak. Then we lost the last 3 games and it was Richt's Inept Offense that failed Us, not the D.

My point is, give Manny a chance to settle in and right the ship!!! We're playing with 3 new DB's, new DC, new DL Coach and most of the DLine were rotational players last year.

I'm upset as anyone but we didn't play any layups yet and allowing these guys to get their legs under them and their timing down. It's not as if we got Blown out by either team. Considering that we allowed 10 sacks vs. UF and still had a chance

Yeah what's another 4 years

That's what everyone said about Rumph & Banda. Meanwhile, now everyone sings Rumph's praises for continually putting his players in the NFL. It's 2 ******* Games!!! Start your Whinning & *****in when we're well into the season if nothing has changed.
Manny in his first season during our 4 game losing streak gave up 400 yds in each of those games. He fixed whatever it was that was causing the mishap and the D has been carying this team for the last 2 years

Forgive yet another rant post, but there were too many where I could add this. So I made my own.

Miami isn’t going to hire a high-salaried big name away from a successful program. Why would someone locked into a $5/6M job leave for an office in Coral Gables? Offer $7M? To who? Stop.

The problem is The U has an AD with little more than a marketing and ticket sales background. We need any AD who understands the ‘Miami brand’ but more importantly understands what it takes to win in athletics. Or, at least smart enough to lean on a network of people who do. Someone who has worked with, for, and contributed to the success best in the business. Someone respected, with connections, who has calls returned.

Where do you think Blake James ranks among ACC athletic directors? Or in all P5? Do you think he’s on anyone’s short list if their AD leaves or retires? He belongs at a lower G5 or FCS program. He should be at FAU or FIU, not The U.

Miami fans need to hope Manny’s poor start is the growing pains of inexperience.

Coach Diaz speaks of the team handling the inevitable adversities that occur in every game. Let’s see how the HC of #TNM handles the adversities of a poor season.

What coaching or schematic adjustments are made during the season? Does he take a more active role in calling the defense? I wouldn’t expect him to fire anyone mid-season, that’s very unusual (even though it happened to him). Perhaps take over coaching LBs and have Patke focus solely on ST? At the end of the season will he be tied to ‘his guys’ or can he look deeper and make hard choices for the benefit of the program?

We’ll see...

And if I were Diaz I’d find away to chat with JJ as often as I could. Not a group therapy session with the other coaches. Head coach to former head coaching legend. A 30-minute call once a week. 15 minutes, once a month. Not schemes, or play calls, or stories from the glory days of the 80s.

Whatever it takes to learn about tough decisions that have to be made to be in order to be a successful head ball coach.

There would be no better mentor.
JJ had to make some decisions after the defensive collapse in his first year hear.

End of the day- special teams cost us at least 2 games last year (could have been 9 win team) and 2 games this year. They have actually gotten worse (instead of a punter kicking 20 yards, we have one who kicks 35 yard line drives, but now have a kicker who cant reliably kick XPs). Diaz hired a dude whose ST experience was as a grad assistant at La Tech. Terrible terrible decisions by Diaz. Just unbelievably awful.

Miami paid Richt and his staff very well. Searles was a highly paid OL coach. And he busted. Kool was a highly paid DL coach. And he busted, at least as a recruiter. Thomas Brown and Ron Dougas made high salaries. Brown busted
JJ had to make some decisions after the defensive collapse in his first year hear.

JJ was forced to accept some of Howard's staff.

After giving up over 40 points a game the last three games those choices were easy.

That's what happens when a Power 5 head coach hire QUESTIONABLE assistants on the " cheap. " LOL

And with the exception of once upon a time, mighty FSU. All of those programs are solid Top 10 college football programs. And very soon Good Ol' Boy Jimbo will have Texas A&M at that level. hUh
