Over the last decade The U has an average national recruting class average ranking between 14-16 according to Rivals, and according to the AP poll and other national and computer polls we have an average final national ranking of 48.

Why? A University north of Coral Gables by the name of UCF has national recruting classess of 75 or higher and has won more bowl games and conference titles than The U, including the Fiesta Bowl last year for those individuals that will debate their conference and bowl quality is weak, Why? Coach O'Leary
Boise State has compiled a record of 112-17 and have been to 3 BCS bowls and their recruting classess are not as high as The U. Why? Coach Petersen
Yet another example VTech, more bowl wins and conference wins over the last decade with recruting classes lower than The U, Why? Coach Beamer

The Final Why? The inability of our core leadership at The University of Miami to find a great coach. Not to experiement with the Cokers, Shannons, or Golden's of the world. A great coach equals better recruting classes, more wins, an ACC championship, more fans, less negativity, more money from trustees and donors to the program and the biggest impact a possible opportunity for a National Championship!

The problem is not Golden, he applied, interviwed, and earned the job!!! Its the fault of Shalala and Blake and his predessesors for not spending the time, energy, and resources to get The U a winner. Lets hope for the best, but in the end our expectations will be shattered either at the end of the season or Recruting 2016.

Lets GO CANES!!!

I can see your reasoning for this and I agree with most of it,but I feel they were hired for different reasons.Coker was hired for continuity after Butch. Shannon to clean up the image and control the goons after the FIU brawl.Golden to be more of a CEO figure at the podium.Miami has always represented at the draft, I just feel they're hiring coaches for all the reasons except football.

In a sense Miami is a victim of the circumstances created by its own success. Going back to Howard Schnellenberger, the coaches at Miami have been picked from relative obscurity/were lesser known when they got the job and became superstars due to their success at The U, parlaying it into gigs at the professional level. Because of the unreal talent advantage (being located in arguably the most fertile recruiting area in the nation) the school and its Athletic Dept., Pres., BOT etc. thinks they can turn virtually any coach into the next Howard, Jimmy, Dennis, or Butch. This mindset has led them to become lazy when it comes to their efforts to search for a coach.

Couple things: Howard was anything but obscure. From Bear coaching tree. Recruited and coached Joe Willie at Bama. HC under Shula for only undefeated team in NFL history. Also a NFL HC before coming to Miami. He was extremely high profile hirer. The biggest name ever hired at Miami. JJ, Dennis and Butch fit your profile. Heck, Butch was not even a HC. But all this misses the real issue. Donna never wanted Miami to be Miami. She got what she wanted in her coaches. The administration is not lazy it just sucks and like her predecessor Foote, Donna is dirty. Both brought huge ncaa scandal onto THE U. The Pell grant thing and nevin were administration driven not from the athletic department. A administrator with drug addition and money hungry president not some corrupted coach caused those scandals.

When Butch was pushed out, just before Coker was hired, I remember posters (on Grassy) putting forth the point that coaching didn't matter. This was because there was so much talent in south Florida, and we had previously hired relative unknowns, and had great success.

Coker, Shannon, and Grolden have blown that theory to bits. Too many premium players are getting poached. We do get talent, but it's not enough to overcome Al Groh's corching legacy, and adherents.

Of course, our visionaries in the Board Of Garbage pile on with their ineptness, and tolerance of mediocrity.

Coaching matters? Nobody ever thought of that before. I thought people were mad at Golden because of poor table manners.
