Heyward claims he initially contacted Bray about returning to OSU on Feb. 11, 2025, but was told all positions on the staff were filled. When Heyward contacted OSU assistant athletic director Jacque Bruns and Bray on March 19, 2025, to confirm his buyout would not be enforced, Heyward claims Bray said he was “‘good’ with Coach Heyward going ‘anywhere else but Cal,’ adding that ‘if it was ASU or any other school, I would have no problem,’” according to his countersuit.

Heyward claims an unnamed member of OSU’s staff later told Barnes and Bray he “stole or misappropriated OSU’s football defensive playbook immediately before he left,” but eventually admitted in writing that the “accusation was completely fabricated.” However, Heyward claims Barnes informed Cal of this claim in August 2025.

Then this past December and January, Heyward claims he was contacted by Oregon State coach JaMarcus Shephard and then-defensive coordinator Lance Guidry about returning to OSU, but that Barnes “blocked the hire,” repeated the accusation about the playbook and “acted outside the scope of his employment and for personal reasons” against Heyward.

We’ve come along way whereby we now got Black men getting country club memberships subsidized. This 💩 just looks ugly on OSU’s part because this dude is someone who played for you; guy had 35 consecutive starts at cornerback.

Almost worked here iirc? I think Mario was seen out eating with him somewhere on the west coast after he took the job already.

Yeup, in addition to Viti, Favian Upshaw is also connected to him because his first year at Georgia Southern was Monken’s last year there before taking the army job.

Both Upshaw and Mensah were quarterbacks under Willie Fritz as well.

Didn't know Upshaw worked with Monken at GSU. I knew about Fritz and, of course, Fritz. He's worked under some good coaches.

Played under Monken (had to sit their only year together because of transfer rules) then Fritz after transferring outta FIU when Mario got fired

Miami hired Joseph in 2023 from Texas A&M where she was a recruiting operations coordinator for a team that landed the No. 1 overall class in the 2022 cycle. Since arriving in Coral Gables, Florida, she's helped land a pair of top 10 classes, which doesn't include Miami's No. 2 overall class in 2027. Joseph is considered an integral piece of Miami's front office with her organization, communication skills and ability to develop relationships. King also played a big role in helping SMU land four-star quarterback Ty Hawkins last cycle.

Something I did find interesting about this article is that Jake ****ert of Wake Forest appears to be the main challenger to New Mexico’s HC for the Wisconsin job.

New Mexico’s HC was hired by Colorado’s new first year AD.
 
Jedd Fisch, Washington Huskies: Fisch is a coaching journeyman, making 11 college or NFL stops since 2008 and none for longer than three years. He enters his third season at Washington with a team that can build on last year's 9-4 mark and possibly return to the CFP. The 50-year-old has voiced a need for Washington to keep pace financially, especially given the spending of its archrival Oregon and other Big Ten contenders. Florida and Michiganwere both fits for Fisch but chose other candidates in the past cycle, so similar job opportunities likely would need to open to get him away from Seattle.

Jason Candle, UConn Huskies: Candle went 81-44 in a decade at Toledo, including two MAC titles, but surprisingly couldn't springboard from there to the Power 4. Will a somewhat surprising move to UConn get him over the hump? Predecessor Jim Mora worked wonders at UConn, an FBS independent that has made strong investments in its program. Candle, 46, has overseen productive offenses and also shown great balance as a coach, as Toledo finished fourth nationally in scoring defense last season. Immediate success at UConn could put him in the mix for jobs at Boston College and Syracuse the next time they open.

Charles Huff, Memphis Tigers: Could Huff land four FBS jobs in four years? Don't rule it out if he wins big at Memphis this fall, which opened Saturday with a massive win at UNLV. Huff guided Marshall to a Sun Belt title in 2024, then left for Southern Miss, which improved by six wins in his only season there. The 43-year-old takes over a Memphis program that has vaulted its past three coaches to Power 4 jobs. Huff spent time in the SEC (including with Nick Saban at Alabama), Big Ten and NFL as an assistant. The Denton, Maryland, native would be a top candidate if Maryland has a vacancy this year.

Anyone who has spent even a single year on Saban’s staff will have their value boosted until they retire from coaching. Huff probably won’t bolt at Memphis asap however he will be a top target as time goes by.

I think T-Rob was smart to go work for Saban before he retired. Will payoff down the line.
