Coaches who never played

Not even remotely in consideration. But the list runs 33 deep now. Mostly BBB morons and other nutjobs. A couple have been permabanned since.
Lmao I’ve got this one goof named Jedi something who keeps looking at my post and doing the dumb reaction on everything I say..I think I have a CIS admirer 🤣

Seems a lot of great coaches had marginal careers as payers. Shula and Landry played DB in the league, but were journeymen for a few seasons. Carroll played D2 or D3 ball at University of the Pacific. Madden played OL at a small college for a season or two.

When manny started talking analytics i was looking up some famous coaches who never played college football.
Mike leach, paul johnson dave cuncliffe, george o leary. what i noticed is most of them run gimmicky stuff like manny
and are only good on one side of the ball. they never win big. they are all 9 win coaches at best except maybe o'leary but his double digit wins came
in a non-p5 conference. I might be old school but even with basketball i hate the daryl morey analytics crap. I just want a football guy.
To the guys who played college and/or pro, do you think it matters if the HC played college ball?
Yes or either he has been around it

As one who played college football.... i will tell you it doesn’t matter ****. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they’re talking about and probably has an IQ below room temperature.

I can name plenty of successful coaches who never played past high school. Butch Davis never played either, and most imbeciles on this board would stick their finger up his *** as they let him shoot a load down their throats. What does that tell you?

Football has complexities to it. For sure. But it’s not quantum physics. Otherwise, the glorified elementary school phys ed teachers that populate most of the coaching ranks wouldn’t be in those positions.

I played division 3- so to this board I a played a bit more high school ball- and Butch played at an all-American high school level and 2 years with the Arkansas Razorbacks- plus he came from some of the best coaching trees any “imbecile” on this board can name!!!!! Manolo didn’t do anything- what does that tell YOU???!!!!?

Name your top ten coaches and odds are they weren’t very good football players. It’s a foolish argument.

Leavh, Belichek and whomever at least played High School football. Manny never even played High School or JV football. He played pee wee league.

Manny’s playing experience is video game football...John Madden and Techmo Bowl (why he’s so gimmicky and why everything out of his mouth is coach speak)

I’ve said this many times (sorry Manny defenders) but when you’re experience is Jogn Madden football snd Techmo bowl it absolutely matters....and it shows! He’s a journey man DC that was fired for non performance.

The players don’t respect him nor do they want to play hard for him. The see him as a “substitute teacher”, for lack of a better term.

And I think the lack of respect stems from a combination of the fact that he’s never played the hame, and because he has proven to be a mediocre at coaching.

When you see Manny on the sidelines as HC he looks absolutely overwhelmed. He and Bubba Baxa has the exact same look on their faces.

he was a little arrogant and snide in his presser today. almost golden-esque with the "its not the scheme "stuff
Furthermore, Manny was arrogant for the approximately 8 months before he ever coached his first college football game. Part of me hoped it was true swag talk he could back. I have put that part of me to rest.

it tells me you're going on a sample of 1.

No, the idea that there is a glass ceiling if you didn't play yourself is ignorant. Most great coaches played because the vast majority of people who get into coaching are former players. It's circular logic, not some cause and effect.

Never played, but hey, he came up with the "schematic advantage"
