The opposing coaches were not impressed by Miami from a toughness and defense stand point and weren't afraid to share that opinion.

He is what the coaches said about Miami:

“Which Miami is going to show up? There isn’t a better looking team in the Coastal from a physical standpoint, thats for sure. That’s what they supposed to look like at ‘The U’ — but they didn’t play like it very often…They obviously have a really talented quarterback and some of the weapons on offense, but who are they? Are they the team that plays pretty good to beat Virginia Tech or the team that laid down a week later and got absolutely embarrassed at home by Clemson?

It’ll be interesting to see what Mark Richt does down there, especially going back to calling the plays like he did early on at Georgia. If Brad Kaaya buys in, working with coach Richt could be very good for him, especially in that pro-style system…

I think the biggest shock when we played them was at linebacker and how below-average they were at that position. When you think of Miami, you’re thinking about guys like Ray Lewis and Dan Morgan, Jonathan Vilma, and Denzel Perryman…In our opinion, they weren’t very good at all last year and nobody on the front four scared you as a pass rusher…I know they’ve recruited well and they seem to have some good young players on that defense but the new staff is really going to have to develop those guys and build some competitiveness. They were pretty good in the secondary because they were an older, physical group with some size, but the front seven was as bad a Miami team as I’ve seen in some time.”

That could be almost any coach who's faced Miami in the last 10 years. It baffles me that we can have the same problems under multiple coaches, but there it is. Hope to **** CMR can beat some toughness into these kids, or at least recruit some with natural toughness.

I wouldn't be surprised if most posters on here will want Manny Diaz fired after this season if not after about 6 games. He might be like Art Kehoe in 2011 where people want him fired after less than a year even though they're uncertain about the rest of the staff. Except that Kehoe got a whole bunch of slurpers in 2014-15 that argued he should be retained.

I am of the opinion that Richt will need to fire Diaz after no more than 2 years in order to be successful at Miami. It's similar to how Butch Davis finally got things turned around once he told Bill Miller to GTFO. (Although much later than Davis should have done so.)

Why not just fire him now since you know exactly how this is going to turn out.

Didnt 247 just post this as content on their site lmao

Ok, here's the thing about the front 4. If that coach thinks it's about the TALENT of the front four, they are in for a rude awakening when we play them. The TALENT was there last year. What wasn't there was a coaching staff that would turn them loose. Enter Coach Kool.....

Thomas...good point thats been made a few times...

I think CIS community agrees DOnfrio's reign of questionable (I say in jest) competence made it impossible to determine the true talent Miami has in the DL group vs Diaz's scheme. Why? Because unlike other compare/contrasts of "pick a group" vs others (on other teams) his scheme allowed the offense's OODA loop to be tighter and ALWAYS dictate to the defense (the very definition of read and react). Diaz and Kool are switching that 180° and installing the strategy (and TTPs to go with) where the Canes defensive OODA loop will dictate to the offense (a very good thing).

I know the community is not 100% sold on Diaz overall, but folks would hopefully agree the DL group has its best chance in a long time of taking SDL glory of old when the likes Stubbs, Brown, Lang, Kennedy, Wilfork, Maryland, Sapp, the list goes on lined up and really disrupted the opposing O...

Rinse and repeat comments from 2006, 2010, 2015.

Somehow it's always the coaches fault that players can't rush the passer or beat their man one-on-one.

Brian P...

I get the criticism from the Coker and Shannon eras...

But dont you think during Golden/Donfrio...they brought that Big 10 read/react that just isnt a good fit for SoFla and Miami's style of play? The athletes were just doing what was asked of them..and that strategically..ley alone tactically...was a big hill to climb...

I meant to tie back to their PSU heritage (should have been more explicit?)...that they have brought with them throughout thier careers....the "JoePa" way....

learn inference....

They didnt magically create their schtick at Temple...or UVA...etc....

their formative years were at PSU and they are both part of the JoePa tree...

you do know that right?

the softballs you keep pitching...
