In the old system, yes. With the new playoff rankings that isn't the case really anymore. Look at UNC last year. Top 10 team even with a terrible loss and ridiculously easy schedule. They beat Clemson and they'd be right there fighting for the final playoff spot.

They didn't even win their conference outright so it's hard for me to feel too bad. Honestly, that first year for the playoffs will probably be one of the few years where we legitimately have 6 teams that all have a case for the 4 spots. Unfortunately they didn't get in, but I think the committee got it right.
