Mangy Diaz is a gimmick.

Many posters here questioned his corching when we hired him and all the things that were criticized have come true.

Agree that coaches shouldn't get credit for how Willis plays outside of improved technique. But they absolutely should get credit for the fact he plays at all. Let's be honest here, who expected him to ever suit up after missing all of last year due to undisclosed off the field issues? That takes incredible determination on his part. It also take a supportive organization.

“Amari has a calm presence about him,” Diaz said. “He’s a very intelligent young man, certainly a very tough guy. Whenever you have a situation where it’s a ‘next man up’ deal, you don’t need to wear a cape. You don’t need to be Jaquan. You can just be Amari. We love the things he brings to the table. We really missed him in Toledo last week, for sure. He would have gotten a lot of run if he was there. But now is his time and I think he feels very confident that he’s ready to go.”

FIU's trainers better bring a few body bags.

LOL @ some of the naivety around here. Giving Simpson credit for the TFL numbers. We had a high number of TFL's last year too! (drrr, could have something to do with our defensive scheme)

We've played 2 Offensive Lines that couldn't block my high school kids. Let's slow down the circle jerk until we get into ACC play.

So what does Simpson have to do to impress you? FWIW, I rewatched the Toledo game just now, and our DL weren't just bull rushing kids into the ball carrier. They were using some very good technique. Meanwhile, the LBs were a mess, getting blocked out of plays and making bad reads. So talent alone doesn't always equate to TFLs and disruption. Because Shaq, Pickney and McCloud have plenty of athletic talent. But they're underperforming whereas the DL is exceeding expectations.

I'd like to see our DE's use actual pass rush moves. That would impress me.

How is the DL exceeding expectations?
They were expected to be good. Jackson, Garvin and Willis are exceeding expectations? Actually I'd say Jackson and Garvin have been relatively disappointing thus far in terms of pass rush.

Playing an agressive down hill style, your gonna get gashed at times. We give or front 7 a lot of freedom to play on instinct. See it, go get type of D...I remember a time when the fanbase was clamoring for that’ style. But now to some it’s a problem

There was A LOT of question about our D-line coming into this season with the departures we had. Trent,Chad, mac, and norton (Johnson also) we’re big losses..the jury is still out but other than LSU ripping off that 50 yarder they have been very good. We’ll see how they hold up in conference play

Bring in 5* D-linemen. The rest will work itself out.

Sounds like Carter will start...until Saturday when Knowles comes prancing out on to the field. Do our coaches just look over and see #20 and think, eh let’s throw him out there at safety.
