Coach Speak: Brown and Searels talk team after Toledo

View as article
Butch owes nobody/ especially UM, not one F-ing thing....You throw an Enormous clump of **** in his lap...for a ridiculous salary...after turning a blind eye to Ericksons culture for 6yrs...and through perseverance, evaluate & develop the Greatest collection of talent in NCAA History within a 4-5 yr time period is Mind Numbing....I know...I know....he ran for more $$$$....Well guess what??...So did Howard & JJ, but it's Butch who recieves the most scorn....

I’m not sure if you’re directing your reply at me. So let me re-state the things I’ve said in this thread, yet again, just in case...

1. I am a Miami and a Butch Davis fan, and have not “scorned” him in my posts to this thread.
2. I think what he (eventually) accomplished at Miami was amazing.
3. I think he was accumulating talent and was improving at UNC, but still had plenty of bad losses and bad games, despite the talent.
4. I think Calvin’s claim that his UNC team would have won a national championship in 2010 is hard to defend, given the facts (even when you factor in the suspensions).

I think his time at FIU will be a very good barometer for him as a recruiter and coach. If he still has it, then he could potentially do at FIU something akin to what Howard did at UM. I’m not saying FIU will become a national contender, but he should be able to recruit the local talent and make some waves...IF he still has it in him.

The times are different, and we can never truly compare UM 2000 to UNC 2010 or UM 1983 to FIU in the near future.

Butch had his time at UM, and the record speaks for itself. He had his time at UNC, and the record speaks for itself. Let’s see what he does to prove himself at FIU.

I wonder how many self righteous posters early in their chosen careers, would leave if offered a better position paying 5 times their salary.... add to it that their current employer was dragging out the contract renewal for months.

I don't blame Butch for leaving.... PDee tried to play hardball and Butch"s agent called his bluff.

yall funny as ****. neg me to death for calling searels out in year 1. "he needs more time" or " al golden leftovers " now yall singing the same tune i was.

hes trash. him and rosier cant gtfoh soon enough

He did it at a Hoops Factory....
How well was UNC doing in FB pre Butch??.....How well did UM do against UNC (With alot more talent) when Butch was there??....

Did what at a hoops factory? Went 8-5?

You Butch nimrods keep mentioning how he did against Randy shannon like its some badge of honor. Guess who also beat the crap out of Miami when Randy was head corch? Al Groh. Paul Johnson.

LoL, im looking forward to this game and so is coach davis. The man just knows how to put a team together point Blank. He has proven that he has the best eye for talent in college football, guys develop under him, not only does he have an eye for elite players, but apparently he has an eye for talented coaches. I wanted davis back, but once coach richt came available, in fact it damyum near seems like the s.e.c. got together and said, "if we dont release coach richt, it's a strong possibility Miami might get butch back, and we know what happened last time, so we cant have that, release coach richt".

F.i.u. will start producing nfl talent, people forget how close unc was to winning the whole thing, had all those players not gotten suspended, that unc squad was gone be ****. Coach richt understands trench warfare as well, just not like davis, who already has that team playing with a balanced attack, plus they're one of the top teams in the nation in redzone scoring already, got a qb completing 63% of his passes, we got work to d
Let's keep it real. Although FIU has improved under Butch Davis, they gave up 38 to Indiana in a loss and just got by Old Dominion.

I expect a challenge early because of many local guys wanting to prove themselves, but if Miami doesn't beat them by 30, then something is seriously wrong.

Take a look at my user name and avatar. I am NOT a UNC fan. So there is no need to wish me luck with Fedora. I am a Miami fan, a Miami alumnus, and was a student, sitting in the OB student section during our first four championship seasons (undergrad and med school). As I said, I was living in NC when Butch was hired, so as a Miami fan, I watched his tenure closely.

Yes, they opened the season with LSU, but were down 30-10 until scoring two TDs in the 4th, to lose 30-24. That year LSU finished 3rd in the SEC West, so they didn’t win their division, much less a national championship.

And if like you say, you “know a championship team when you see one” then you may want to check your history. That LSU team you say won it all, didn’t even win their division. And that UNC team, if it was championship caliber, should have easily beaten a very mediocre Miami or GT, even down 3 players. They barely beat FCS William and Mary 21-17! Let that sink in. A championship caliber team doesn’t just give up the season like that, or struggle against an FCS team at home. A championship caliber FBS team should easily beat William and Mary with their practice squad.

And as I said before, essentially the same UNC personnel went 8-5 the year before, came in 4th in the very mediocre ACC Coastal, and lost a mid-tier bowl game. There is absolutely no way you can assume they would have won anything the following year.

I think Butch is (was?) an amazing talent evaluator, but I watched his teams at UNC closely, and saw an improvement, but no evidence that they would have won it all. I love Butch as much as any Miami fan, but the blind devotion to him, despite the actual evidence is just a bit too much at times.

Look, i wasnt a fan of butch davis coming in, cause he was talking foolishness to us, saying things like changing the image and this and that, he lost us early on, than his coaching style is basic football offensively, it was run right, run left, and many times run on third down, punt the ball. His teams had to earn the right to pass. While that style of coaching wont win many fans early on, its the beginning and making of a dominant team. He understands you must be able to run the ball and stop the run, but he actually knows how to get it done. He doesnt care much about the win loss record early on, he cares more about establishing a certain style of play and once it gets established you start seeing his teams blossom real quick and people be like damyum, where did that come from.

Had those players not been suspended, and that investigation had not hit, that unc team was going to the title game, butch davis teams will be fundamentally sound teams that wont beat themselves, after year 3, that's when davis teams start hitting their stride. You can look at records and say 8 & 5, but that doesnt tell the True story, just like you can have a team go 10 & 0, but does it tell the true story of the team.

If he stays at F.i.u., by year 3 or 4, they already have established a true identity and are toos in the nation in important categories, no matter what the conference is, when you are tops in the country in redzone effiency, thats saying something and gives you a real good idea where that team is headed. Im not saying they will beat us, but they will be better than Savannah St. Who man-handled are non-running game.

You can look at it like that, but heres what i know, syracuse with mcnabb drubbed us under butch davis, he had bizarre loses along the way, the man knows how to build a team, and they will be consistently fundamental in the near future. He knows coach richt's tendecies.

that unc team was going to the title game

This is the last time I will beat this dead horse.

You mean that same UNC team that struggled to beat FCS William and Mary at home 21-17, with most of their players back from suspension?

I’m not arguing what you think about Butch as a coach (although some of your logic defies...well...logic). How many different ways would you like me to restate my point? There is no objective evidence, based on their actual performance, that says his UNC team was going to win a national championship. That’s what you claimed in your first and subsequent posts to this thread. Although I see what you did there in that last reply. Now you only having them going to the title game. You’ve backed off your claim that they were going to win it all.

Thank you for the “interesting” debate. Now let’s all behave like reasonable Miami football fans and hope for an epic beat down of FIU that makes Butch wish he was back at UNC, getting schooled by NCState every year.

Unc was not close to winning the whole thing... you're talking out your ***😂😂

After we pummel FIU, maybe the Butch Davis circle jerk will die down for a little.

Yes sir. I'm a Butch fan, and just can't believe how history is being rewritten here. He has always been a mediocre game day coach. His unique capability -- and it is special -- is talent identification. And FIU's team is barely as talented as Miami's scrubs. They're on Bar Milo's level if even that. So, no, evil genius Lex Davis Luther not is going to show up and use kryptonite to destroy Clark Richt Kent's team on the field.

What does that have to do with the outcome of the game? At the end of the day it's about the Jimmies and the Joe's. We have more of them than they do. Otherwise, they would be Canes.

I'm not disrespecting them. They have a good team and should do very well in their conference. They just don't have the talent or depth to keep up with us.

I do believe FIU will play hard and keep the game respectable for a while, but we should wear them down by the 4th qtr.
