We've got more than enough talent to win the Coastal.
Next coach better win the Coastal in Year 1. Doesn't have to make the playoffs or win the ACC, but he better win the Coastal.
I respectfully disagree.
I think that regardless of who the new coach is, there's a certain amount of rebuild required and implementing a new system and a new attitude.
Butch, Herman, Fuente, or whoever will need to make some major changes.
And 22.
Why??
At worst, this is a 6-6 football team.
I keep reading that we have a franchise QB, a top notch DL that just needs to be coached up, and quality south Florida talent at the skill positions.
Golden's recruiting classes have all been the best in the Coastal ...
Don't start hedging, now ...
The next HC better win the Coastal.
Y'all keep telling me UNC isn't really that good ... Well, who else should win it? UVA and VT will probably have new coaches. GT and Duke are terrible, again. And the Pitt HC will be in his 2nd year, still coaching Pitt classes that are worse than Miami's roster.
If the next HC doesn't win the Coastal, one of 2 things happened:
1. Some team had a dream season, and we finished number 2.
2. We hired the wrong coach. And that goes for Mullen, Gundy, Strong, Herman, or Butch.
Don't be dense. I said regardless of the coach, so meaning Butch, Herman, Fuente, Belichick, Lombardi, or Elvis, will have a rebuild so don't try and chalk it up to me hedging my bet on Butch.
Whoever we hire is going to change what we do on both sides of the ball. Scheme changes take at least a year of implementation. Michigan's defense is hitting the ground running because Harbaugh inherited a wealth of talent of to play the exact 3-4 he wants to play. The scheme isn't being changed.
If we hire a spread/Air Raid guy, that will take time to put in. If we go hire a defensive guy and go back to our usual 4-3, that will take time to put in. And everybody is trashing the soft weakened attitude that the team has right now and that will need a year to change.
And there are holes all over the team in terms of talent. The OL is in shambles. LB has a ton of problems. WR is thin. Secondary, QB, and DL are the comfortable positions. The recruiting classes that Golden brought in have clearly been neutered to a certain extent and we've discussed millions of times how the S/C has taken away some of our talent's strengths.
And you need to wake up and smell the coffee or learn how to read and direct your point at somebody else because I've been all aboard the, "UNC is a very good team," train from the beginning. And just because the other Coastal teams aren't very good on the whole doesn't mean we are by default. We are a bad team and guys like Franchise, M2H, and others have pointed out that our guys who just flat out quit and rolled over repeatedly. Attitude is harder to change than any scheme change.
We could hire Don Shula-Vince Lombardi-Jimmy Johnson-Bill Belichcik-Bill Walsh and I would still expect a one year acclimation period. The state of the program is worse than people say it is.
Year 1=Compete for the Coastal.
Year 2=WIN the ACC.
Year 3=Playoffs.
