Coach Likens on Joe Rose this morning

You ever worked for a really good company, great management, or healthy workplace culture and thought you could do better? Go to a new job and it doesn’t meet what you thought. Not calling Miami a dysfunctional atmosphere, but just adding more to your point.

Brethren, that’s exactly what I went through. And honestly, I was going to use my example as this very point.

That doesn't answer the question posed.

The meetings, meals, difficulty of practice, the coaches knowledge of the game etc. Most importantly would be strength and conditioning. But all are unique from program to program. It doesn't matter why they came here (when answering this particular question) it's how being here compares to how OU or UG run their programs.
Both programs have had much better players, almost across the board, than Miami, including multiple first round caliber quarterbacks and WRs (as well as top 5 recruiting classes every year). Despite that, neither has won ****. So I guess those coaches suck at everything but buying a premium roster...

U’re being hella disingenuous w/ this post.

OU doesn’t have a Nat’l Championship, but only ONE team wins that, and those teams have been Bama & Clemson lately. I would take OU’s results a billion times over what we’ve experienced here.

They are the current, reigning Big 12 champions, and have won the Big 12 six-yrs in a row now....not their division, the entire f’ing conference. And have won the conference 13 of the last 20 yrs. Have been to the CFP twice. and are consistently in a NY6 bowl games.

My ninja, we got players rocking the ACC Corstal shirts from 2017 today, as a badge of accomplishment. I would take that every single day of the week. Are u kidding me?? FOH.

So you’re saying the standards are the same. Win the conference, not the big one. Got it.

He talks about competition - his WR room is in phase two, holding each other accountable. They aren't just worrying about themselves but holding the other guys in the room accountable. He said they are being very detail oriented in spring practice. The goal is to give everyone snaps - he mixes and matches his WR with different QBs so they get different looks and become familiar with each other.

Likens says since January, all the receivers have caught 100 balls or tennis balls every single day.

Restrepo: Says Restrepo is a "football player". Works very hard and loves football. Likens says Restrepo is a playmaker and he is very excited about "X" man...

On Pope & Wiggins:
Tells them they can't listen to outside criticism. Tells them criticism will make you tougher - trust in the process.

On Rambo: He's settling in and getting what it means to play up to the standard at Miami. He's been learning the offense and all the details and really starting to put it all together.

Likens said he is very excited about the young guys on the team in general.

Likens knows Jake Garcia from his time at ASU. Recruited him from the time Jake was in 9th grade. He says that if he was a young wide receiver in the program, he would be very excited about having TVD and Jake as QBs ....

-He said he shows his WR film of different plays and tries to make them understand that if they want to succeed at the next level, it's not just about catching a ball and getting tackled; they need to do something with the ball after they catch it. He said he tells them "they don't give away millions of dollars" for nothing......
On Pope and Wiggins- trust the process. I spit out my coffee.

Appreciate the summary mate, thanks. Hopefully the extra work the WR corp as a whole are getting will pay dividends come the season. Here’s hoping Likens is formulating thoughts of Harley, Rambo, and Key as the starters. Hearing that X is coming on strong might push Pope or he will find himself 3rd string in the slot. Time for Redding to step up or the young guns coming in the Fall are going to usurp some of these other WR’s, including him.

Absolute joke how far the standard has dropped

Hence these new coaches continually toting the phrase “there’s a standard around here”....wtf does that even mean? If there was a standard, then why are kids rocking a 2017 shirt that meant absolutely nothing b/c it began a serious demise! Smh. Chit be ****ing me off, along w/ dumb *** homers trying to compare us to any team that haven’t won the CFP, but are in constant position to vie for it. I would love to be in that position, at the very least.

Hopefully starting this season, we begin that journey.

Dead men walking. They're upperclassmen. Grow up and stop getting in your feelings FFS.

The look on Pope’s face when he heard this...

I bet Mario or Butch would have fought him for wearing that shirt....”back in my day”

I agree, homie. We need that OK standard on defense, too, ya hear me!? And, yo, if we could just have that Kirby game day coaching, we’d be hella good.

If there was still a real "standard" here, Manure wouldn't even be here. He's a guy who has taken more embarrassing and humiliating historically putrid beatings than any HC we've ever had. It's funny that the guy spewing nonsense about "the standard" wouldn't be here if that standard still existed.

I always go back to the heat Pink Erickson took after going 10-2 in his 2nd year after 11-1 his first year. He legit talked about being in fear of losing his job and having former players calling him giving him ****. That's when there was a real standard at UM. There's been such a slow and steady erosion of the standard over the last 17 years that the new standard is now "let's hope to win the Coastal every few years and not get humiliated by Clemson."

We got fans in here not wanting to play King against Baga because it's an exhibition game to them where we're playing the role of the Washington Generals. They fully expect to get drummed by 50 and don't think it matters at all. When there was a standard here, do you think that would be the mindset of fans?
