Money was an old excuse. They paid Richt 4 million a year without a problem. Diaz was going to get a raise if he stayed. Elite coordinators make more than 1 million a year. Venables makes 2 million. The head coach is the face and the attitude of the program, but without top-end coordinators, it means nothing. Clemson is the perfect example. Nothing was happening until they got Venables, then Morris. They've been paying players for years, and Swinney was there for three years, and the results were mediocre, but then their administration invested in coordinators, and things changed. They also started putting in a lot of money towards support staff for recruiting. Hopefully Miami sees they're going to have to spend money to make money.
