CMR vs. GT

It seems like almost every team gives up yards and chunk plays to GT. Sound, assignment football coupled with aggression that's oriented at forcing fumbles is the way we'll stop them in two weeks.

I haven't watched them enough this year to adequately judge their defense. Does anyone have insight on that side of the ball?

Ted Roof plays fairly aggressive as a DC, and Tech's D has a handful of playmakers, but that's it. They were underwhelming in Ireland against BC but did dominate a terrible Vanderbilt team at home. If their Offense is clicking (it was terrible last year), then their TOP advantage will allow their defense to play 'fresh'. Keep their offense off the field and you will see the Defense wear down through the game. They also will struggle to cover our skill players in space (backs catching in the flat, Njoku and Herndon in the seam, AR15 or Coley over the top).

GT will make plays. They are good at that offense. The best you can do is contain them and limit the big plays. It's difficult to judge Tech's defense from games against BC, Mercer, and Vanderbilt but Miami's offense should be able to roll up points.

I'm definitely not worried about GT. Our recent coaches have done well against them. This time we have a real HC and real position coaches.

After seeing FSU get bombed and ND not doing too much, I'm not worried about any team at this point.

But we need to keep improving, stay healthy with who we have and produce on the field.

If we do that, this could be a pretty good first year for the Richt era.

CMR's lifetime record against GT is 13-2. Having coaches the last few years that couldn't handle the option was maddening. I hope he has lots of film to share with the "D", they have always given us a hard time Would love to see this become an automatic win opponent.

I think people are sleeping on VT @ Lane on a Thursday. That's still Bud Foster over there and they put up a dominant performance last week, albeit Boston College. There's a decent chance they're 5-1 and more comfortable in Fuente's new system by then. The thought of a Foster defense with an actual offense under Fuente is scary; the rivalry should be back soon. The ACC is finally reaching its potential, it's about to get pretty exciting.

A relevant Miami and VT to go along with Clemson, FSU, Louisville and Notre Dame, not too mention some of the other solid coaches in the conference providing depth. (Mendenhall, Fedora, Cutcliffe, Narduzzi, Babers, ect.)

Been saying for a while a real coach at GT can turn that program into a legit contender, there's a ton of talent in the Atlanta area. I can't believe they've been content with that offense in a talent rich state like that.

Agree most of this, Fuente good + the D. Our depth fragile as it is.

Ironically, GT is usually successful with the triple option, there down fall has always been their Defense.

A lot of the players on this team have faced their offense. They understand it's assignment football. The true freshman LBs are the ones to watch.

Darrion Owens will probably play quite a bit of I had to guess.

other than GT and cupcakes, we have lost many of the games where we had superior talent over the opposing team. one sign that things have changed around here is UM beating teams with less talent rather easily. we saw this on saturday. we should see it again in two saturdays. if we lose to GT, we are going to have a hard 3-4 weeks after that. given our dominance over them the last 5 years with an inept coach and given CMR's record against them, there is no way in **** we should lose, unless the team comes out flat or doesnt want to play

False. You can absolutely attack and destroy this defense and that's what we should expect. Unless you're Al Golden.

Pretty sure a cut block is legal as long as the player isn't simultaneously engaged with a different player using his upper body.

Pretty sure a cut block is legal as long as the player isn't simultaneously engaged with a different player using his upper body.

For instance, in the FAMU game Coley and Berrios hit their corners with a pair of nasty, completely legal cut blocks on the Richards screen touchdown.
