First of all I love the Banda/ Patke hire. If it gets us:

-Summerall/ Zip
-Rique
-Bogle

then it was worth it as that is some serious blue chip talent and needed momentum on our team.

Secondly, our safeties have been one of our best position groups. Banda can DEVELOP AND COACH kids . If he lands Stevenson then he would have landed the 2 best safeties in Florida in a two year span in Gurvan Hall and Tyrique Stevenson.

I think CMR has a good eye for getting good coaches on the cheap especially on defense.

When Manny Diaz came , many people questioned the hire because he was not an Aranda ( guy I and everyone wanted). Yet Diaz had an iffy reputation from Texas that he had not been able to shed. Here he is now among the hottest coordinators and obviously with the second ranked pass defense turned that into a head coaching job.

Same can be said for Mike Rumph. Many people wanted a more experienced guy in there and a better recruiter ( trust me I want to recruit corners better as well). But without even getting the top tier guys Rumph managed to have us as the #1 pass defense in the nation.

Jess Simpson? A High school coach who became an Atlanta Falcons defensive assistant. I also remember this board expressing concerns about this guy, especially when coach Kool was considered the top DL coach in America who we had just lost. Now no one cares about Kool and we love Simpson and have seen our DL IMPROVE.

So what if Banda/ Patke are home runs as well? What if we get a similar top 10 defense next year for cheap AND WE get a better recruiter as our DC in Banda and great safeties coach ?

Not to mention, hopefully this frees up cap space to hire an OC that we all want. Give them a chance, I think these guys have been learning with Diaz , know our Defense and will bring the thunder.

Difference is, Diaz, Rumph, and Simpson have all done SOMETHING in the world of football.

Simpson was a dude who was coaching high school and a defensive ASSITANT for the falcons... Banda was coaching safeties for the the Canes who by the way top notch secondary play. He helped develop redwine into a very good player this year. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Will we be top.2 next year? Without our starting safeties, Joe Jackson possibly leaving and Willis gone? No. But if theae guys continue running Diaz's aggressive scheme which they KNOW.. we can be somewhere in the top 10-15. With the added bonus of Bands Being a solid.recruiter this can turn out to be very good news. Give it a chance.

Man, it's more than just a scheme. It's an entire system. It's knowing all the Os you will be facing. There is no way you can tell me Banda and Patke have the experience to be DC.

I get you.. experience? No not as a DC. But he worked closely with Manny Diaz and has seen entry of ACC offenses already, not to.mention he wasn't u see Diaz at Mississippi State. Kid turnednRashawn Jenkins and Redwine into top players. Thidy guy can coach and I believe that he can get us a top 15 D next year and be a top recruiter at the U.

I'll take the seeing is believing approach.

You love the hire if it lands us a few recruits? That's probably one of the stupider things I've read in awhile.

This was a lazy, horrible hire. Absolutely no way to reasonably spin it. We have the money to go get a real DC and we chose to promote an ex-bartender who coached ONLY the safeties and a one year removed GA who coached ONLY the striker position, which is a single spot...

It's embarrassing.

Sorry for speaking errors.. typing from phone is crazy. I respect that.
My wife sends my funky messages all the time, so yours was quite easy to read. She sent me a message once about supper, kids, then "**** beast thing". She was evidently talking and the phone misunderstood. That, or she was.... with another man at the time! D'OH!!!

Btw.. I tend to agree with @The Franchise here. I think if you get Miami caliber talent and you get smart agressive coachhes then this place will make your reputation. Richt could have gone with a retread like Tuberville or an old outdated dude. He went with youth... Who are hungry and innovative and have been groomed by Diaz and understand what works here in.South Florida. Don't expect #2 next year because we lose some serious leadership and talent in DL/ CBS/S and those positions are rather young. Yet wouldn't be surprised if we are somewhere in the 15 ish range

You can't hire just to get a couple kids this cycle.

And I don't care if these promotions free up a spot for an OC, mostly because it means we are still wasting a spot on his ******* son. The kid isn't qualified to be on the staff. Not to mention how many co-*******-coordinators does a team need? Ridiculous.

Thing is, an older dude would know that if something is working, don't fix it. Young dudes think their way is better, and will often break what didn't need fixing.

Then you have old coaches that can't tell what does or doesn't work, like our head coach.

They never learn.. sad part this year is worst than Randy or Golden years and they don’t realize that
Its crazy that those people think these kids are signing here, every year these are the kids that are signing here and we get the watch the finish bullshyt. Then FEB comes and we strike out to bama lsu uga Clemson or fsu or uf

Dumb, lazy hire. I am baffled at posts like this, and anyone who would upvote/like a post like this.

Patke is barely qualified to coach OLBs, much less a defensive coordinator at UM. Banda is a decent safeties coach, but he has never called plays.

Diaz's experience allowed CMR to focus on other facets of the team and let the defense run autonomously. Good luck doing that with a couple of green coaches running the defense.
