Clemson Wasnt built overnight

Being able to hire Morris for over a million, and being able to steal Venables from Oklahoma is what elevated this program to another level. The belief in Dabo to make those excellent hires and the financial commitment to fulfill them... The administration in Clemson has it going on.

The saddest part of all is that the BOT has a bunch of business men on it. If they only saw the ROI that Clemson has had on its big hires and applied similar business principles to how they hire and fund the football program. I'd argue that the same success that Clemson is having now, would yield a larger ROI at the U because of the brand equity the U has.

10-4 (thrashed by WV 70-33 in OB)

FSU's bridesmaid for 2 years..

and then it was on...

would this fanbase, its fake fanbase, the local lynchmob media, and the toxicity that builds here after 2-3 years, and how that affects recruiting, ever support a rebuild like this?

who are gonna be our Taj Boyds, Sammy Watkins, CJ Spillers, etc.. who buy into a vision and are developed

Not so sure, the only hope is the culture argument, and building one that people continue to buy into in spite of some not so great results
Answer is no..our fans would’ve mocked and ran Dabo out of town mid season in year 2

Youre comparing what our cast of loser coaches has done compared to Dabo? That’s insane. What this fan base reacted to was not results, as much as why those results happened.

You get a coach who isn’t incompetent, like the last 4, and the fan base will be ok with growing pains. The last 2 coaches lost games because they were incompetent.

Our football program is funded as good as it needs to be.

This fan base needs to quit crying poor mouth. It’s complete bullshlt.

I would like to see improvement every year, and how about beat the teams we should beat!, we have more talent than any team in our division of the ACC, and we have only won our division twice , WTF , Come on man, let’s just play to our potential!!!!!!!

With any new coach, I’m patient. But we need to see on field and off field improvements and improvements are not necessarily wins/losses.

And I’m getting a little sick & tired of these super fans tossing out the description of “fake fans” or “mob” b/c we’re vocal about the incompetence that’s been shown around here.

There was literally no excuse for the bull chit that was happening under his watch. He had been a head coach for 15 yrs at a top tier school in arguably the toughest conference in CFB, and had plenty of experience in coaching roles prior to that! The QB room was a mess, the offense was a mess, his refusal to adapt was aggravating, and the recruiting was subpar. Everyone complained about him that weren’t even Miami fans, so enough w the bull chit.

Golden would still be here if it were up to these fans still being patient for that 10 win season. They have never experienced what is is like to actually have a winning program so they are cool with 8 wins.

These fans are more interested in being liked than actually winning. They spend all their energy whining and crying about other fans. Meanwhile the coach and three ring circus they support is in free fall....but forget all that...just bang on the fans again and again because a few of them said something mean about the coach.

No. Clemson’s programs is better funded all around, and it shows. Money is what it tales to win. Lots of money. Clemson has a staff of 40 recruiting analysts. We have what? 2? 3?
Their DC makes 2mil and is worth every penny. We hired a no name from La Tech for peanuts. Don’t compare the two programs financially because Miami still aint close to Clemson when it comes to investing in the football program. The results speak for themselves.

They turned into throwing bags

Exactly. Somehow Clemson can recruit after a 6 win season and an unestablished coach, but we can't with an established coach and a 10 win season.

Just a change in the offense will help the recruiting. Once kids see the difference, and the opportunities with playing time, the recruiting will improve. They might be able to keep some of the elite kids, but I think that will probably take a year or two, short of Miami also developing a bag network of its own.

I see you’re point.

Our all in budget is 7 mill. 3 mill for Diaz and 4 mill for staff.

We can’t compete with this budget

I keep repeating your notion and all that. But the majority of these Cane guys keep uttering that Miami has the CASH FLOW for coaches salaries. :youre-nuts: hUh.

Let's hope Manolo turns into Miami's Saban/Dabo.

Last night was the culmination of the day Swinney first stepped foot at Clemson.

Institutionally, Clemson is only slighty larger than Miami. Perhaps if they did it there, Diaz van do it in Coral Gables.

Curious to know staff salaries in Death Valley (Clemson).
We just need to win with what we have now. We have all the future recruits in our backyard. Just think about the South Florida kids on Clemson, Georgia, and Alabama. If we had half of the kids that left, we'd be a top program with top 5 recruiting. Clemson has to recruit Georgia and Florida to build their program. They can't do it with only South Carolina players.

Start dominating the Coastal and challenge Clemson in the ACC title game. Eventually top recruits will be rolling in. We can have top 5 recruiting classes in < 3 years if we just do three things: 1) Beat FSU !!!. 2) Dominate the Coastal!!!! 3) Be competitive in the ACC Championship game. We can win the ACC by 2021 (Trevor Lawrence to NFL). All realistic goals!!!

I want to agree with you... no...
If AG was willing to change his DC, or if MR had hired Helfrich there wouldnt be much toxicity.

Winning and having all the athletes in backyard isnt enough today.

A compelling case must be made, some how, to keep them from wandering into the larger world. This is a task that is likely impossible compared to the "State of Miami" days when Schnelly figured it out.

I disagree. Win and they will come. We can win the Coastal and have a chance at the ACC CG every year. That's what we should be doing. We haven't. Hopefully under Manny we will. We'll move from top 20 classes to top 5-10 every year. Show these kids you have a winning culture. Most of the kids are leaving because they want to play for a contender. They're not going to Georgia and Alabama for the night life.

Look how much hype we had in 2017 when we were 10-0. The college football world is just waiting for us to arrive. This program can be on top again. The Alabama's and Clemson won't be there forever.

There are 3 types of hires in college football with 3 different time tables.

The Build Coach - Taking a traditional low expectations program and build it (Snyder KSU, Schiano Rutgers)
The Don't mess up Coach - Taking over for a winning program where coach left on his own (Coker, Erickson, Solich, Miles)
The Rebuild Coach - Taking over for a fired HC at a program that expects to win (about 25 programs like that) Dabo

Outside of Dabo, how many rebuild coaches would you say finished below .500 in year 2 and were considered successful hires?

Here is the Year 2 record of coaches you would call successful hires as rebuild coaches I could think of....

Carroll USC - 11-2
Brown Texas - 9-5
Meyer UF - 13-1
Richt UGA - 13-1
Saban LSU - 10-3
Saban Bama - 12-2
Stoops OU - 13-0
Kirby UGA - 13-2
Kelly ND - 8-5
Fisher FSU - 9-4
Tressell OSU - 13-0
Holtz ND - 8-4
Harbaugh MICH - 10-3

Do you include
Orgeron LSU? 9-4 or 10-3 depending if you include the 6-2 interim year
Chizik AUB 14-0 National title

Chris Peteresen at Washington who went 8-6, 7-6 his first 2 years (but was a proven commodity, not a first time HC like Dabo) is the most similar.

Dabo is a true outlier, in those situations when you hire the right guy, he usually makes chicken salad out of chicken **** by year 2.

Considering the last 30-40 years you can't find any other successful rebuild guy take a major step back from year 1 like Dabo, most fanbases would have been pretty riled up at the end of year 2. Not just Miami.
